Nestled in the dense tropical forest of Bukaya, Uganda, Entebbe Forest Lodge emerges as a masterpiece of eco-friendly lodge design. Conceived by Localworks and immortalized through the lens of Will Boase Photography, this 1130 m² hospitality space, completed in 2022, marries the essence of nature conservation with the luxury of hospitality, embodying an architectural ethos of modesty and craftsmanship.

The Architectural Vision of Entebbe Forest Lodge

Entebbe Forest Lodge stands as a beacon of sustainable architecture, thoughtfully integrated into its natural surroundings. The project is divided into two distinct experiences: the introspective 'forest lodge', featuring small wooden cabins on stilts nestled within the forest to minimize environmental impact and enhance the guest's connection with nature; and the extroverted 'lakeside lodge', boasting a main building that opens up to breathtaking views of Lake Victoria, framed by terraces, a pool, and open lawns.

The Cabins: Intimacy Meets Nature

Each cabin, spanning 63m², is a private retreat designed for either double or twin occupancy. These suspended wooden structures, clad with charred eucalyptus offcuts, offer a warm and inviting interior space. The use of waxed eucalyptus flooring, earth-pigmented lime plaster, and locally woven mat ceilings enriches the cozy ambiance. Bathrooms are ensconced in sculptural stone-clad volumes, providing a stark yet harmonious contrast to the wooden elements. Large windows ensure a seamless visual and sensory connection to the forest.

The Lakeside Lodge: Spectacular Natural Vistas

The main building and public areas of the lodge are strategically positioned along the forest's edge, set upon solid stone bases. This placement not only maximizes structural integrity but also allows for expansive outdoor stone terraces that extend the indoor spaces into the lush landscape. Key architectural elements, including wooden floors, steel windows, and timber-clad roofs, resonate with the cabin designs, maintaining a cohesive aesthetic throughout the property. The swimming pool, with its elegant curvature, and the circular sundowner terrace atop a cliff offer guests unparalleled views of Lake Victoria and its natural beaches.

Entebbe Forest Lodge by Localworks is a landmark of eco-friendly lodge design, showcasing how luxury and sustainability can coexist harmoniously within a natural setting. This project not only provides a sanctuary for those seeking solace in nature but also sets a precedent for future developments in eco-tourism and sustainable architecture. Through its thoughtful design and integration with the environment, Entebbe Forest Lodge stands as a testament to the beauty and potential of sustainable architectural practice.
