Giacometti Museum & School to be Designed by Dominique Perrault, Pierre-Antoine Gatier and Louis Benech

In 2026, the Fondation Giacometti will take control of the historic Invalides train station building and the basement of the esplanade to construct the Giacometti Museum & School. This new institution will feature a museum displaying an outstanding patrimonial collection, versatile exhibition areas, and an art school accessible to everyone.

Located in the centre of Paris, the 6,000 m² Museum & School will revolutionize the idea of an artist foundation and encourage interaction between the public, artists, and various forms of creative expression.

The building, originally built for the 1900 World Fair, and its basement annexes will undergo a complete renovation. Renowned architect Dominique Perrault, along with heritage architect Pierre-Antoine Gatier and landscape architect Louis Benech, will oversee the transformation of the historic site. The Emerige Group, in collaboration with Nexity, the project's co-laureate, will handle the construction of this cutting-edge international museum.

Through this ambitious project, the Fondation Giacometti will offer the unique chance to permanently house the world's largest collection of the artist's work in Paris, consisting of almost 10,000 pieces, many of which are not currently available for public viewing. It will also be able to share its various activities and pioneering teaching methods.

The Museum will be home to a permanent collection of hundreds of works by the renowned artist, Alberto Giacometti, including sculptures, paintings, drawings, and decorative pieces made from plaster and bronze. The building's architecture, with its natural light, creates an ideal setting for the showcase of the artist's works.

Visitors will be able to step into the artist's studio, which is an integral part of the Alberto Giacometti legend, and get a glimpse into his creative process. The Foundation's archives, library, and picture library will be open to the public.

In addition to showcasing Giacometti's works, the museum will host exhibitions from other modern and contemporary artists.

The School of Creation for All, which is closely connected to the museum, offers a unique approach to art that transcends the boundaries between fine arts, applied arts, crafts, and both professional and amateur practices.

The Fondation Giacometti offers a comprehensive experience in a warm and inviting atmosphere, with green courtyards, cafes, restaurants, bookshops, and concept stores, along with its rich cultural programming and research and teaching activities, such as the École des modernités and the Giacometti Lab.
