Integrating With the Urban Fabric

Located strategically at the northwest corner of its campus, Tung Yuan Kindergarten interacts seamlessly with its surroundings. The building faces a 6M roadway, sitting at a 45-degree angle that respects both the urban grid and the internal campus pathways. This alignment introduces a dynamic interaction between the structure and the city, making the kindergarten an integral part of the community.

The Entrance and Canopy

The entrance of the kindergarten is marked by a recessed canopy that twists 45 degrees to align with the existing campus axis. This architectural feature is not only functional, protecting children from the elements, but also forms an inviting gesture towards the community. The canopy extends upwards, forming an activity terrace on the second floor, further blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Façade and Structural Innovation

The front elevation of the kindergarten is a modern interpretation of a classic house, with a double-pitched roof that mirrors the domestic architecture of the nearby residences. This familiar shape is rendered in white, creating a stark, memorable image against the industrial backdrop. The roof itself is supported by a striking Y-shaped column on the second floor, which is a structural and visual focal point. Painted in bright yellow, this column not only supports the roof but also serves as a playful element that enhances the learning environment.
