Sustainable Modular Architecture: Olympic Insertion
Transforming urban living with modular, green, and sustainable spaces designed for adaptability and community well-being.
The sustainable modular architecture project, Olympic Insertion, is located in the Olympic Villa ‘Abraham Telchi’ in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. This area, spanning 160 hectares, is dedicated to developing sports disciplines, making it a prime location for innovative housing solutions.
Project Objectives:
- Housing for Families and Young Athletes – Designed to provide a comfortable and accessible living space near sports facilities.
- Urban Well-being and Community Integration – Enhancing the quality of life through a thoughtfully designed sports-centered environment, encouraging a healthier lifestyle.
- Sustainable and Scalable Living – The modular design allows expansion and customization based on future needs, incorporating green spaces between units for shared outdoor areas.

Architectural Approach:
- Steel Framing Construction: The project utilizes a steel framing system composed of cold-rolled galvanized steel sheets, ensuring durability and sustainability.
- Modular Housing Design:Single-occupancy units feature two floors covering 28.25 m².Double-occupancy units include an additional floor, totaling 65 m².The adaptable structure allows for future expansion to accommodate changing requirements.
- Morphological Concept: Inspired by the Persian walnut, the design promotes unity and flexibility by integrating interconnected blocks that foster community interactions.
- Climate-Responsive Orientation: The project modules are strategically positioned north to south to optimize wind flow and minimize solar exposure, enhancing indoor comfort year-round.

Design Recognition:
This shortlisted entry in the Plugin Housing Challenge 2020 was conceptualized by Sebas Medrano, Natalia Gomez Justiniano, and Fabiana Martinez Vera, showcasing a forward-thinking approach to sustainable modular architecture.
By merging functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability, Olympic Insertion redefines urban housing, demonstrating how modular architecture can revolutionize modern living spaces for athletes and communities alike.
