The one with Sheldon Cooper
Can Sheldon live with the constant changes of Life?
Sitting on his office chair and gazing at the cityscape outside the huge slanted window, Sheldon tries to come in terms with the fact that this is his new life now. Change was never Sheldon’s strongest forte. Moving to the bustling New York City was one of the biggest changes in his life. What made it worse was the fact that the house he had previously booked, ditched him in the last minute and hence, he now has to shift into an apartment with two girls, Monica and Rachel, who knew nothing even remotely related to science, let aside physics. This was a house full of colors especially the purple walls that Sheldon still finds hard to adjust to.
He sighs and shuts down his computer to retire for the night. He goes to the kitchen for a glass of water and looks at the entire house, which is filled with colorful furniture. Furniture from Modern to Victorian style because Monica loves to have vintage and rustic decors. Originally this house belonged to Monica and she decorated the house according to herself. Rachel moved in later on, but never really was able to add on to the already furnished house. Moreover, Monica hated if something moves from its designated place. Though she does like to sneak in a few elements like the lamp next to the couch in the living room. Then he glances at his study area by the window, which he filled with his furniture from Texas, the only things that connect him to his past. He just could not accept all the sudden changes and needed some things of familiarity in this new city.
He places the empty glass in the squeaky-clean sink. It brings a smile to his face when he sees how clean everything is. Although he has his reservations about staying with the girls, he still loves how clean and organized Monica is. Whenever he sees the house or talks to Monica regarding organization, he feels the happiest. Her way of organization, and precision of cleanliness made it a little easier for him to stay with them. With the COVID- 19, safety and hygiene were one of Sheldon’s biggest concerns about sharing a house, but staying with Monica he was not that concerned about it anymore. She placed an entire set of sanitizers and disinfectants to the entrance so that people can sanitize before entering the house.
He slowly trudges towards his room which is furthest from the living room and next to the bathroom. The room is opposite to the balcony entrance window. He is still not very happy about the cold air entering the house through the gaps around the window. He tried shift to Monica’s room, but she did not budge and he had to end up taking his current room. Still, he hasn’t given up on the room that eludes him. He slowly tried to take over the room by moving his study outside her room. He tried to persuade her to switch rooms, however, she just wouldn’t agree. He enters his room with a sinister smile thinking soon she will change her mind.
He enters his bedroom and switches on the light on the night stand next to his bed. He shuts the curtains on the window above the night stands. He gets in his bed and looks around his room. He sees his collection of figurines above the chest of drawers next to the closet. He sees the bookshelf filled with his comics and decorated with things like his light saber, green latern’s lantern and his most possession, the big green Hulk hands. He feels very proud about his collection of artefacts. He thinks about how he never got the chance to go to his favorite comic store one last time before leaving Texas. He stares at the collection of Star Trek artefacts and being soothed by his Mr. Spock figurine drifts to sleep.
The next day, Sheldon wakes up to the loud noises of people outside his room. He instantly knows who the owner of the voices were and dreads waking up to them. Though he knows that they are not bad people and doesn’t really mind them much, he gets up from his bed and exits his room. He is instantly welcomed by the delicious aroma of pancakes covered with maple syrup. Living with an amazing chef like Monica is definitely a treat for Sheldon’s appetite. He sees Rachel and Joey preparing the kitchen island for breakfast as per Monica’s strict instructions. Ross is playing video games in the living room along with Chandler and Phoebe sitting next to them passing her quirky remarks on the way Chandler plays. He feels content that they finally learned not to sit on his spot on the couch. He goes and sits on his spot on the soft white L-shaped couch. His spot which is just the right distance from the radiator and next to the window. From here he can watch TV without catching the glare and also address everyone when they are seated around the coffee table. Though he wasn’t so happy that he can’t see the main door from his spot, he doesn’t really mind it much anymore. Breaking his train of thoughts, he hears Monica's voice calling everyone for breakfast. As they all go to the Kitchen Island to eat, he thinks that though they are very different from him, it isn’t too bad living with them after all.
