Abdijbeke Residence: A Sustainable Architectural Marvel in Brugge
Abdijbeke Residence in Brugge blends sustainability, modern architecture, and nature, offering sunlit apartments, green spaces, and community-driven urban living.
Located in the tranquil Sint-Andries district of Brugge, adjacent to Frederick Sander Park, the Abdijbeke Residence redefines contemporary residential architecture. Designed by Declerck-Daels Architecten, this visionary project transforms a former office building site into a thriving living space, embracing sustainability, natural integration, and urban revitalization.

A Harmonious Architectural Integration
The Abdijbeke Residence consists of two meticulously designed buildings, each housing 19 spacious and sunlit apartments. The architecture is a direct response to the genius loci, seamlessly integrating built volumes with lush greenery to breathe new life into the neighborhood. Inspired by the site's historical significance—once home to renowned orchid specialist Frederik Sander—the project pays homage to its botanical legacy with a design that embraces nature.

Sustainability at the Core
Abdijbeke Residence is a testament to sustainable urban planning. The buildings are strategically positioned to create a verdant plateau that opens into Frederick Sander Park, prioritizing pedestrian and cyclist accessibility while fostering a strong sense of community. The thoughtful design incorporates a white, greenhouse-inspired structure on the south-facing façades, blending terraces and planters to filter sunlight, enhance privacy, and ensure optimal natural ventilation.
The energy-efficient façade materials not only contribute to the building's longevity but also harmonize with the surrounding urban fabric. The rhythmic interplay of vertical windows, varied in width and positioning, enhances the building’s aesthetic while maximizing daylight exposure.

Maximizing Natural Light and Open Spaces
Designed for high-quality living, the apartments boast sun-drenched terraces oriented toward the south, allowing residents to enjoy a seamless indoor-outdoor connection. Duplex units feature generous voids that amplify spatial perception, while exclusive penthouses offer expansive terraces and panoramic views of the lush surroundings.
The faceted roofs and dynamic façade designs are intentionally crafted to optimize daylight penetration, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout the interiors. These thoughtful elements contribute to an enhanced living experience, where transparency and security coexist harmoniously.

Enhancing Connectivity and Urban Living
Strategically located with easy access to key amenities and public transport, Abdijbeke Residence is designed for the future of urban mobility. Upcoming car-sharing programs, expanded cycling infrastructure, and improved public transport aim to reduce car dependency, fostering a serene, eco-friendly environment. The underground parking facility ensures that green spaces remain the focal point of the development, offering residents a tranquil and nature-infused lifestyle.

Blurring Boundaries: A New Approach to Urban Space
Abdijbeke Residence is more than just a collection of apartments—it represents a forward-thinking residential concept that blurs the lines between private and public spaces. By transforming a former office site into a vibrant, community-driven residential park, the project underscores a commitment to inclusivity and sustainability.
