Located in the serene Gosan district of Uijeongbu, South Korea, ANArKH Café & Restaurant is a marvel of architectural design for cafés and restaurants. Designed by Simplex Architecture, this cultural complex serves as a hub where café, bakery, dining, and art converge. Surrounded by lush greenery and urban development, the structure seamlessly blends modernity with nature, creating a tranquil yet dynamic space for visitors.
With an expansive area of 7,982 m² and completed in 2022, the building exemplifies innovative architectural principles that cater to diverse user experiences. Its unique design harmonizes functionality, aesthetics, and the environment.

Architectural Concept and Integration with Nature
ANArKH Café & Restaurant’s architectural design stands out for its deliberate engagement with the surrounding environment. The building adopts a simple rectangular mass, but its façade design transforms it into an architectural landmark.
- South and East Façade: These sides feature expansive glass walls, offering uninterrupted views of the adjacent forest. This openness connects visitors with the serene natural landscape.
- North and West Façade: Solid walls clad in yellow granite ensure privacy by blocking views of nearby residential complexes. The granite, divided into large modules, resembles a natural stone block, enhancing the structure's organic feel.
This strategic interplay of openness and solidity ensures that the café is both a visual retreat and a private sanctuary.

Gradual Exploration: A Journey Through Architecture
Visitors to ANArKH Café & Restaurant embark on a journey that unveils the building’s architectural beauty gradually:
- Approach: The northwest façade introduces the building with a robust, stone-like presence.
- Stairway Ascent: As visitors ascend the northeast stairs, their view is initially restricted by the walls. Upon reaching the top, the building’s interior and its relationship with the natural surroundings unfold.
- Interior Views: Large eastern windows draw attention to the vibrant greenery outside, creating a seamless dialogue between the interior space and nature.

Interior Design: Diverse Experiences Across Floors
The interior of ANArKH Café & Restaurant is as thoughtfully designed as its exterior, offering distinct experiences across its five levels:
- First Floor – A Green Retreat:Features a reflecting pool with a signature tree in front of a vast window. The design emphasizes the harmony between water, greenery, and light.
- Second Floor – Planterior Concept:Combines indoor planting with the outdoor natural landscape.Creates an immersive experience that bridges architecture and biophilia.
- Third Floor – Privacy and Comfort:Offers secluded spaces where visitors can enjoy food and drinks in a quieter setting.
- Duplex Café Theater:Between the second and third floors lies the café theater, the core of the building’s cultural appeal.Hosts art exhibitions, music performances, and other cultural events.Positioned at the southeast corner, it boasts the best views in the building
