Anna + Mallesh Residence by Juiceshop Collective: A Sustainable Oasis in Urban India
A sustainable residence blending nature, minimalist design, and passive cooling, featuring courtyards, raw materials, and seamless indoor-outdoor living.
A Home Designed for Nature & Tranquility
Nestled against the serene backdrop of a eucalyptus plantation, Anna + Mallesh Residence by Juiceshop Collective is an architectural masterpiece that harmonizes nature, sustainability, and innovative design. Located in a dense urban fabric, this 4,050 ft² home integrates lush greenery, natural ventilation, and a fluid spatial layout, reflecting the client’s deep appreciation for outdoor living.
A defining feature of this eco-conscious home is the non-rectangular room design, adding an element of dynamism and creativity. One-third of the 2,400 ft² site is dedicated to landscaping, ensuring a strong connection with nature while enhancing thermal comfort.

Blurring Boundaries: Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Living
Inspired by contextual minimalism, the design focuses on sustainable architecture while embracing openness. The home is centered around two strategically placed courtyards, which dissolve the boundary between the interior and exterior, fostering a continuous dialogue with nature. The open floor plan ensures garden views from all key spaces—including the living room, dining area, kitchen, and study—offering a serene ambiance throughout.

Sculptural Elements & Artistic Integration
The residence features a striking helical ferrocement staircase and a polished cement slide leading to the basement—both functional and sculptural elements that infuse the space with creativity. Hidden niches and secluded pockets throughout the house encourage exploration, enhancing the home's playful yet sophisticated character. Carefully curated light and shadow interactions further elevate the design, making every corner a visual delight.

Passive Cooling & Sustainable Materiality
Sustainability is at the core of this residence. Cross-ventilation strategies, sliding doors, and wooden screens regulate airflow, minimizing the need for artificial cooling. Each room is designed to capture picturesque views of either the verdant eucalyptus forest or the private courtyard gardens, providing a tranquil retreat from urban surroundings.
The material palette champions raw, natural finishes, celebrating the beauty of exposed concrete, beige rammed earth walls, polished cement flooring, and rich wooden accents. This restrained yet elegant approach creates a timeless aesthetic, blending contemporary architecture with traditional craftsmanship.

A Benchmark for Sustainable Urban Homes
Anna + Mallesh Residence stands as an exemplary model of modern sustainable architecture, integrating biophilic design, passive cooling techniques, and artistic innovation. Through its minimalist materiality and immersive indoor-outdoor connections, this project redefines urban living—offering a sanctuary that seamlessly merges with its natural surroundings.
