Apartment S: A Historic Warehouse Transformed by Enzo Rosada Architecte
A historic warehouse in Marseille transformed into a modern 100 m² loft, blending industrial aesthetics, natural materials, and contemporary design.
A Contemporary Renovation in the Heart of Marseille
Enzo Rosada Architecte has masterfully transformed an 18th-century warehouse in the port of Marseille, France, into a modern and elegant 100 m² apartment. This project respects the site's historical essence while introducing contemporary design solutions that enhance both aesthetics and functionality.

Blending History with Modern Living
Originally built for industrial purposes, the warehouse featured grand stairwells, once used for hauling goods. The renovation sought to preserve this rich architectural heritage while adapting the space to a modern residential layout.
The apartment is divided into two primary zones: an open, light-filled living area and a secluded, intimate bedroom. The living space, inspired by loft-style interiors, is framed by two monumental windows that flood the room with natural light. The original concrete flooring has been retained and sculpted to form a striking kitchen island, creating a seamless visual connection between different areas.

Materiality and Spatial Fluidity
To enhance spatial continuity, the renovation incorporates solid oak furniture, acting as a transition between the off-white living area and the enclosed bedroom, which is softened with blackout curtains for privacy. The wooden structure ingeniously conceals essential utilities, including heating, air conditioning, kitchen appliances, and storage elements such as a built-in library, laundry space, and dressing room.
Brass fittings add warmth and sophistication, contrasting beautifully with the concrete surfaces, reinforcing the apartment’s refined industrial aesthetic.

A Cozy and Intimate Sleeping Space
The bedroom is designed as a tranquil retreat, featuring a troglodyte-inspired shower room clad in waxed concrete, which blends seamlessly into the organic composition of the apartment. Rough-hewn wooden beams frame the ceiling, further emphasizing the fusion of historic charm and modern craftsmanship.
A key design feature is a raised sleeping platform, offering panoramic views of Marseille’s Old Port, where boats move in an endless maritime ballet. This elevated perspective enhances the apartment’s unique connection to its historic surroundings.

A Harmonious Fusion of Past and Present
Apartment S stands as a testament to thoughtful architectural intervention, balancing preservation and innovation. By respecting the original industrial character while integrating contemporary comforts, Enzo Rosada Architecte has created a sophisticated urban retreat that honors the past while embracing the future.
