ASURA PAVILION
Pavilion for Heritage city of Karnataka, Mysuru.
ಅಸುರ (Asura) Pavilion is a concept which tries to depict the culture of Mysore using the locally available materials. The site is chosen near the terrace of Chamundi Hills in Mysuru next to the Chamundeshwari temple. There are a lot of visitors to this place everyday for religious , Cultural and Quality time spending purpose. Many Mysuru citizens believe this to be one of the best places to hangout and is a hot spot for fitness freaks during the morning. The hills has been an emotion to them rather than just a geography. A pavilion to capture this essence at the top of the hill will be a joyful experience and the a varying nature of the pavilion can help create a new experience.
The major focus is to have a dynamic pavilion which could vary based on certain parameters at certain time or season. One of the idea for the performative pavilion is to use customized Lenticular lens with embedded image which refracts particular image based on the angle of the incident sunlight. These lenses are arranged inside a Camp Jaali unit.
The Structure is designed using Terracotta Jaali walls which are supported using PVC pipes reinforced with Jute Fiber rope and Mycelium filling. The PVC reinforcement draws inspiration from the Crab's arm which has a hard shell and soft filling inside attached together by a long tendon like fiber. This was translated using PVC pipe for hard shell, Mycelium filling for the soft filling and jute fiber for Tendon. For major support and cultural importance of Mysuru , Wooden columns are used. There is a presence of Yali statue on the either side of the Pavilion entrance to guard the pavilion from evil (belief ).
Initially the Pavilion will Alienate to the context due to it's unique form, but later it will evolve to be a integral part of it in due course of time where people will explore it further. It can be a cafe , a shop , a hangout zone , recreational space or just a plain passage , The only thing it transforms into is what people's heart interpret is as.
