Back to the Future
Urban Village, Warsaw
People have the tendency to romanticize the past. An example of this is the nostalgic image of the European countryside. Elderly remember youth with a longing for freedom or a sense of community. The analysis of a XIX and XX villages reveals the features that make it sound like a timeless unit.
I wanted to create a housing alternative for people who wants to live in the city but in harmony with nature. The project is situaited in the district Ursus in Warsaw, where was the tractor factory. The fundamental part is site plan aimed at the expansion of biodiversity. Vertical farms refer to the basic definition of a village and respond to increasing urbanization. The buildings basis on a traditional linear villages, stimulate neighbourly relations. The CLT structure, which is a modern interpretation of wooden architecture, gives the residents many possibilitien to create own space.
Project can be addopted to the other district in Warsaw or other locations, creating a new image of the city with respecting the natural environment.
What is the solution to the now common problem of urban sprawl?
We should create more multi-level spaces, not only for living but also meetings, playing etc. instead of horizontal architecutre.
How to deal with decreasing biodiversity?
We should abandon horizontal architecture which blocks animals environment and create site plans that contain various environments needed for the development of the life of birds, insects, fish etc.
