Located in Canning, Argentina, Bombai House designed by TIM Arquitectos is a striking example of modern residential architecture where concrete becomes both structure and expression. Completed in 2022, this 160 m² single-story residence reflects a strong rationalist approach, combining geometric precision, functionality, and a seamless connection with its natural surroundings.

Architectural Concept

At the heart of the project lies the use of concrete as a transcendental element. It not only defines the visual identity of the house but also enables the execution of sophisticated geometries. The cantilevered partitions create a dynamic play of light and shadow across the façade, generating a sense of balance between solidity and openness. This architectural dichotomy becomes a defining characteristic of Bombai House.

Entrance and Spatial Sequence

The arrival experience is carefully choreographed. From the moment residents step out of the car, they are immersed in a spatial journey. A reflecting water feature on the left contrasts with an exposed concrete partition on the right, suspended eight and a half feet high, elegantly framing the main entrance door. This deliberate composition emphasizes symmetry and creates a dramatic yet welcoming threshold.

Interior Layout

The house unfolds on a single level, ensuring accessibility and spatial fluidity. The social core—an expansive open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area—extends seamlessly toward a covered gallery with a built-in grill, blurring the line between indoor and outdoor living.

The private wing accommodates two bedrooms with bathrooms and a versatile third room that functions as either a study or guest bedroom. This room has independent access from the street, offering flexibility for work or visitors.

Light, Ventilation, and Materiality

The orientation and strategic window placement allow abundant natural light to penetrate the interiors throughout the day. Large glazed surfaces not only frame exterior views but also facilitate cross ventilation, enhancing thermal comfort.

One of the most distinctive features is the plinth lighting system, integrated flush with the floor. This detail diffuses sunlight in a natural, homogeneous manner, adding subtle sophistication to the interiors.

Bombai House stands as a refined example of Argentine contemporary residential design. Through its bold use of concrete, functional layout, and thoughtful integration of light and landscape, the project embodies both aesthetic clarity and environmental responsiveness.
