A significant native gum tree was preserved, becoming a natural focal point within the landscape. Collaboration with school leadership and stakeholders helped refine the design brief, ensuring the facility would promote student wellbeing, educational enrichment, and community interaction.

Architectural Vision Inspired by Learning and Nature

The design concept draws from the educational context of Ivanhoe Grammar School. The north façade, with its rhythmic structure, evokes stacked textbooks—symbolizing knowledge and growth. Materials and textures harmonize with the historic chapel nearby, featuring muted tones that complement the campus heritage.

A defining architectural feature is the avenue wall, finished in earthy tones inspired by the local landscape. The sawtooth roof design captures natural light, illuminating the main pool hall and enhancing the sense of openness and connection to the outdoors.

Functional Spaces for Health, Learning, and Community

The centre seamlessly integrates core aquatic and educational functions. Key facilities include:

• 25-meter lap pool for training and competition
• Dedicated learn-to-swim areas for all ages
• Multipurpose learning rooms supporting wellness and education
