Cruzaltense Residence by VOO®: A Contemporary Countryside Retreat Immersed in Nature
Contemporary countryside home in Brazil by VOO®, blending minimalist design, natural materials, and landscape integration for serene rural living.
Nestled in the tranquil rural landscape of Cruzaltense, in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, the Cruzaltense Residence by VOO® is a contemporary home that celebrates openness, environmental harmony, and architectural clarity. Designed in 2023, this 5,123-square-foot residence redefines modern living in the countryside, emphasizing a seamless integration between built form and the surrounding natural context.

A Home Shaped by Landscape and Freedom
Set on a family farm surrounded by dense woodlands, the Cruzaltense Residence was conceived with the intention of offering both expansive freedom and serene privacy. The design concept centers around an L-shaped floor plan, which subtly defines the social and private areas of the home while maintaining a fluid connection with the landscape.
This L-shaped layout eliminates the need for fences or rigid boundaries, instead creating a natural architectural perimeter that opens the residence to panoramic green views while preserving a sense of intimacy for its inhabitants.

Floating Elegance on Sloping Terrain
The site’s sloped topography presented a unique opportunity to craft a home that feels light and grounded at once. VOO®’s approach allowed the ground floor of the house to sit gently above the landscape, creating the illusion of a floating structure. Thoughtful voids, overhangs, and carefully positioned openings respond directly to environmental factors—sunlight, ventilation, and sightlines—ensuring that each architectural element serves both a functional and aesthetic purpose.

A Reflective Arrival: The House and Its Lake
A scenic lake marks the entryway, mirroring the house in its still waters and crafting a dynamic visual encounter that changes with the light throughout the day. This water element enhances the naturalistic feel of the home, emphasizing its connection to the environment from the very first impression.

Warm Interiors and Strategic Openings
Inside, the generous social areas are finished with natural wood ceilings, fostering a warm and inviting atmosphere. The open-plan living and dining spaces flow seamlessly toward the expansive veranda, which is enclosed by sliding panels. These panels, along with strategically placed external flaps, shield the interiors from the harsh northern sun while allowing for controlled natural light and ventilation.
The voids between social and private zones are more than just transitional spaces—they serve to promote airflow and daylight penetration, while subtly ensuring privacy and spatial clarity.

Private Areas Oriented to Nature
The private wing of the residence, including bedrooms and bathrooms, faces the forested surroundings. Set back slightly from the greenery, this placement ensures that each room benefits from natural ventilation, sunlight, and open views, while maintaining a comfortable distance that protects privacy. Even the bathrooms are thoughtfully positioned to provide landscape views without compromising intimacy.

Minimalist Detailing and Organic Materials
The house’s interior finishes reflect a deep respect for nature, using organic materials and textures that complement the external views. Sunlight is allowed to animate the interior throughout the day, shifting atmospheres and reinforcing the home’s connection to the rhythms of the natural world.
VOO® carefully coordinated the interior palette and material choices with the architectural form, emphasizing clean lines, natural textures, and contemporary simplicity. The result is a unified space where interior and exterior are in constant dialogue.

Architecture in Harmony with Daily Life
Cruzaltense Residence embodies an architecture of simplicity, elegance, and functional clarity. Circulation flows are intuitive, volumes are clean and purposeful, and every design decision supports the idea of a calm, distraction-free domestic life. It is a home where contemporary design meets rural serenity, offering a model for sustainable, context-sensitive architecture in the Brazilian countryside.
