Doa Residential Building by White Cube Atelier – A Contemporary Haven in Bazargan, Iran
Doa Residential Building by White Cube Atelier blends shifting volumes, light, and privacy, creating flexible, multi-layered residential spaces in urban Bazargan.
In the densely packed urban landscape of Bazargan, Iran, Doa Residential Building emerges as a contemplative pause amidst the city’s hectic rhythm. Designed by White Cube Atelier, this residential project embodies a delicate balance between privacy, light, and spatial fluidity, creating a home that is both functional and poetic.

A Responsive Architecture of Light and Space
Doa House is not simply a building—it is an experience. The shifting volumes of the structure are guided not by stylistic whims but by functional necessity and the interplay of natural light. Every subtraction and addition has been carefully calculated to allow sunlight to penetrate interiors, frame views, and enhance a sense of openness. The thoughtful manipulation of space creates semi-open areas, offering residents a dynamic, multi-layered experience that changes with time, season, and daily activities.

Flexible Living in a Dynamic Framework
Unlike traditional static homes, the Doa Residential Building provides a flexible framework that encourages diverse lifestyles. The domino-like arrangement of volumes generates unique spatial interactions: terraces become retreats bathed in light, interiors acquire nuanced shadows, and airflow patterns subtly shift to enhance comfort. Through this orchestration of form and function, Doa blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces, offering a home that breathes with the city while maintaining its own serenity.

Materiality and Sensory Experience
Material selection plays a key role in Doa’s identity. Bright travertine stone evokes a sense of memory and light, revealing lines of shadow and silence rather than covering them. Balconies act as thresholds between inside and outside, where wind, sound, and light converge, fostering a rich sensory experience. Dark grooves along the façade, resembling hidden veins, contrast the white travertine, adding depth and quiet sophistication to the building’s exterior.

A Multi-Level Residential Journey
Spanning five thoughtfully arranged levels, Doa’s spatial organization responds directly to residents’ needs while maintaining architectural continuity.
- Ground Floor: Dedicated to parking, with direct access to the vertical core including the main staircase and elevator.
- First Floor: Houses the kitchen and living areas, forming the heart of the residence. Connected to the second floor through an internal staircase, it reinforces spatial continuity.
- Second Floor: Contains a bedroom, a cozy living space, and a master suite that blends light, views, and tranquility. A central void amplifies vertical connectivity.
- Third Floor: Accommodates a two-bedroom flat, offering independence and flexibility for daily life.
- Roof Level: Features an outdoor living and dining area accompanied by a small pool, culminating the home’s experience of stillness, leisure, and panoramic urban views.

A Contemporary Reinterpretation of Residential Life
Doa Residential Building redefines conventional concepts of privacy, fenestration, and spatial layering. It is not merely a dwelling; it is a living, breathing structure that negotiates light and shadow, openness and seclusion, motion and stillness, providing residents a sanctuary within an accelerated urban environment. Through its thoughtful volumes, materials, and spatial experiences, Doa exemplifies how modern residential architecture can harmonize functionality, aesthetics, and lifestyle.
