Dome Next Door in Riga’s Dome Square is an interactive installation blending medieval architecture, modern design, and playful public engagement experiences.
Dome Next Door in Riga transforms Dome Square into an interactive, playful installation merging historic architecture, contemporary design, and vibrant community engagement.
Reimagining History Through Contemporary Design
Dome Next Door, or Kopā pie Doma, is an innovative urban art installation located in the heart of Riga’s Old Town, at the iconic Dome Square. Running until the end of September 2024, this installation merges cultural heritage, interactive architecture, and public engagement, offering visitors a unique way to experience Riga’s history.
Inspired by the architectural legacy of Riga, Dome Next Door draws from medieval vaults, the Dome Cathedral Cloister, and the geometric elegance of arched windows and historic facades. The design seamlessly bridges the past and present, creating a space where history is reinterpreted through a contemporary lens.

An Interactive Urban Experience
Dome Next Door isn’t just an installation; it’s an immersive social space. Visitors are encouraged to relax, explore, and play:
- Lay back in hammocks or enjoy a casual picnic
- Swing while taking in panoramic views of the Dome Cathedral tower
- Interact with mirrors that reflect and distort your surroundings
- Daydream under the open sky
By offering this interactive experience, the installation transforms Dome Square into a vibrant public hub, where the old architecture of Riga meets contemporary creativity. It encourages visitors from all walks of life to connect, engage, and contribute to the evolving energy of the space.

Architectural and Cultural Significance
Located at the crossroads of seven historic streets within a UNESCO World Heritage site, Dome Square has historically been a center of cultural exchange. Dome Next Door amplifies this narrative by turning the square into a living artwork that celebrates both community and cultural heritage.
Visitors don’t just observe the installation, they become part of it. By engaging with the space, they breathe life into the design, making Dome Next Door a dynamic, participatory landmark in Riga’s urban landscape.

Merging the Past and Future
Dome Next Door honors Riga’s rich history while embracing contemporary urban art and public architecture. It exemplifies how cultural installations can revitalize public spaces, spark creativity, and foster social connection. Through its playful design, the project invites everyone to rediscover the joy of communal spaces and to experience the city from a fresh perspective.
