ECODRIFT
MANGROV PROTECTION
Vision
Our floating community center in Puntarenas envisions a symbiotic coexistence between human activity and the marine ecosystem. Positioned near the vital mangrove habitats, the project creates a sustainable interface where ecological restoration and local empowerment meet. By introducing a platform for fish farming, water purification, and eco-tourism, it provides economic opportunities for the local population while enhancing environmental awareness. The design emphasizes low-impact construction, inclusivity, and long-term ecological balance, embracing the logic of nature as a guide to future living.
Concept
EcoDrift is a coastal settlement model that synchronizes with the natural rhythm of water—integrating ecological production and community life through floating systems. Situated along the mangrove shores of Puntarenas, Costa Rica, the project incorporates aquaculture, greywater filtration, and rainwater harvesting as circular ecological systems that empower both environment and economy. Modular units, built with bamboo and locally sourced wood, form floating market pods, gathering areas, and restaurants. A web of wooden walkways connects all functions, enhancing access and circulation over the water. EcoDrift proposes more than architecture—it envisions a regenerative way of living, where communities drift with the tide, producing, sharing, and restoring life.
