Field Arts & Events Hall: Port Angeles’ Waterfront Cultural Landmark
Field Arts & Events Hall in Port Angeles is a flexible waterfront cultural center featuring a 500-seat theater, timber design, and panoramic views.
The Field Arts & Events Hall, designed by LMN Architects and completed in 2023, is a premier performing arts and community gathering facility located on the scenic waterfront of Port Angeles, Washington. Spanning 3,729 m², this cultural center serves as a dynamic hub for local and regional artists, offering an unprecedented combination of performance, exhibition, and event spaces.

A Versatile Performing Arts Destination
At the heart of the building is a 500-seat multi-purpose performance hall, designed to accommodate a diverse range of artistic events, including orchestral music, dance, dramatic theater, and amplified music performances. Its flexible design ensures that local arts organizations can tailor the space for varying productions, from intimate performances to larger-scale festivals.
Above the performance hall, a second-level conference and banquet center offers sweeping views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Mountains. This 250-seat event space supports business luncheons, corporate gatherings, weddings, and cultural events, all complemented by dressing rooms, backstage facilities, a catering kitchen, and an administrative suite for seamless building operations.

Integrating Art, Architecture, and Community
The Field Arts & Events Hall integrates a fine art gallery, coffee shop, and public gathering spaces to create year-round cultural engagement. Its design emphasizes accessibility and flexibility, allowing visitors to attend a conference, enjoy a performance, or socialize at a weekend jazz brunch, all under one roof.
Local history and geography are thoughtfully celebrated through natural materials and timber accents, paying homage to Port Angeles’ historic timber industry. The building’s timber curtain wall offers panoramic 270-degree views, while the wood-ceilinged lobby with integrated lighting evokes the sunlight reflecting off the adjacent waterfront. Visitors ascend a feature stair from the urban street entry to reach expansive, multi-level public spaces, immersing themselves in both architectural elegance and the surrounding natural environment.

Urban Renewal and Waterfront Connectivity
Situated at the western end of historic downtown, Field Arts & Events Hall is the first component of a planned arts, culture, and science campus. The project strengthens Port Angeles’ downtown waterfront, offering pedestrian connections to Front Street and the working waterfront. By blending contemporary architectural gestures with regional heritage, the building fosters a vibrant cultural and social infrastructure for the city, the North Olympic Peninsula, and the broader Pacific Northwest.

Expert Design and Collaboration
LMN Architects partnered with industry leaders to bring this vision to life. Civil engineering was handled by Zenovic & Associates, MEP engineering by Stantec, and lighting design by FMS. Manufacturers including Armagard, Ducharme, Fundermax GmbH, and Kawneer contributed to the material quality and detailing.
According to Steve Raider-Ginsburg, Executive & Artistic Director at Field Arts & Events Hall, “I have never been in a building in Port Angeles that offers so much flexibility and accessibility. Visitors now attend multiple events weekly, reflecting the facility’s integration into community life.”
Julie Adams, Partner at LMN Architects, adds, “Observing audience members mingling in the lobby or attending performances highlights how the building amplifies the energy of the Port Angeles waterfront. We hope this cultural hub continues to serve the region for many decades.”
Cameron Irwin, Principal at LMN Architects, emphasizes, “Situated where the mountains meet the sea, the building reflects communal investment in downtown renewal and supports the long-term cultural vitality of the region.”

A Lasting Cultural Legacy
By combining state-of-the-art performance facilities, flexible event spaces, and immersive public environments, the Field Arts & Events Hall establishes itself as a landmark cultural center on the North Olympic Peninsula. Its thoughtful design, material authenticity, and community-focused programming make it a destination for residents and visitors, promoting cultural enrichment and economic vitality for Port Angeles and beyond.
