Concept and Design Philosophy

The design of Grota's House was deeply influenced by the client's desire for a small, cost-effective home that would highlight the beauty of the local vegetation. Site Constraints and Structural Considerations

The plot chosen for the home is characterized by a longitudinal division created by the preservation area, limiting the buildable space. The main construction area was placed in the innermost section of the plot, away from the street. Given these constraints, the architects organized the house into three main volumes: a linear pavilion, a garage, and a third volume with independent access. This modular approach not only allowed for a phased construction process but also ensured that the house could be built incrementally without compromising the design or functionality.

A mixed structural system of concrete and steel was adopted to meet the project’s technical needs. The steel structure, in particular, allowed for flexibility in future construction phases. Painted in vibrant orange, the steel contrasts beautifully with the surrounding greenery, providing a visual connection to the earthy tones of the Cerrado soil.
