H House by Estudio 1415 integrates sustainable design, natural ventilation, and functional spaces, offering modern living in Paraguay.
Located in the district of Cambyretá, in southern Paraguay, H House stands as a modern architectural marvel designed by Estudio 1415. This residential project is built on an irregular plot within a predominantly residential urban context. The design of the house is driven by the users' need for a practical, functional, and comfortable living space. Tailored for a couple with a child, the house features an efficient layout spread across two levels, comprising of a social area, three intimate bedrooms, and essential services.



A Thoughtful Approach to Spatial Integration
The size and shape of the lot allowed the architects to push the boundaries of traditional residential design, ultimately resulting in a house that connects seamlessly with its environment. The layout is intentionally structured to create a strong bond between the interior and the exterior spaces. The house's long, linear configuration is oriented toward the north, optimizing natural light, solar gain, and cross-ventilation. This connection between interior and exterior not only offers a visual continuity but also facilitates a physical interaction with the surrounding landscape. This focus on open space allows natural light and air to permeate every corner, ensuring thermal comfort and a welcoming atmosphere throughout the year.


Design Elements and Materiality
H House’s design employs a combination of local materials and innovative techniques to balance aesthetics with functionality. The core walls of the house are constructed with ordinary rope brick masonry, featuring an expanded polystyrene core for enhanced insulation. This innovative approach to the wall assembly contributes to the building’s thermal inertia, providing year-round comfort while reducing the need for external maintenance. The galleries, integral to the house’s design, are part of a visible concrete structure that weaves through the space, creating a visual and functional connection between various parts of the home.
Wood plays a significant role in the design, used as a key element for regulating light entry into the bedrooms and adding a warm, natural touch to the home’s aesthetic. At the main entrances, the wooden enclosures enhance the home’s warmth, offering a tactile contrast to the surrounding materials.


Efficient Energy and Water Systems
One of the house's most innovative features is its sustainable design. The metal roof is inverted towards the center, allowing for natural light to flood the interior spaces. The strategic placement of skylights ensures that the home remains well-lit, reducing the need for artificial lighting. Additionally, a concrete gutter system efficiently collects rainwater, distributing it to various registers for storage. This water is then stored in a reservoir, where it can be reused for maintenance and cleaning, minimizing the home’s environmental footprint.


Spatial Layout and Functionality
The design of H House is structured around two main blocks, with the social spaces located at the front, engaging directly with the public space. This configuration not only maximizes the house’s connection to the outside world but also provides a sense of openness to the street. The modest-sized barbecue area, located adjacent to the garage, can expand into an outdoor deck for hosting larger gatherings, creating a fluid space for entertainment and social interaction.
The private spaces, including the bedrooms, are situated towards the back of the lot. This positioning ensures a greater level of sound insulation from the street, offering a serene and private retreat for the family. The intimate connection between the different courtyards further enhances the sense of peace and tranquility that permeates the home.
