Located in Yangon, Myanmar, the Infinity Playground designed by Blue Temple transforms a previously barren concrete area into an immersive, playful environment. Covering 666 m², this innovative playground, completed in 2023, weaves around two existing trees, forming an infinity-shaped structure that encourages endless exploration and adventure.

A Playground Reimagined

The site originally lacked shading and interactive elements. The design introduces a continuous sequence of play zones, forming an infinitely looping obstacle course. Children navigate through a bamboo jungle, climbing on monkey bars, balancing along swings, and enjoying Myanmar-style hopscotch, creating a rhythmic and engaging play experience that repeats seamlessly.

Sustainable Bamboo Architecture

The playground is entirely constructed from bamboo, combining three different species to maximize structural integrity and visual appeal:

  • Dendrocalamus giganteus for the primary frames
  • Oxytenanthera albocialiata Munro for curved architectural elements
  • Thyrsostachys siamensis for bracing and roof beams

This thoughtful material choice not only provides eco-friendly construction but also reflects traditional Burmese craftsmanship. Seating areas are integrated into both openings of the infinity shape, allowing teachers to supervise while children explore freely.

Dynamic Day and Night Experience

A white tarpaulin roof filters sunlight during the day, creating a soft, comfortable environment. At night, LED strip lighting runs along the curved bamboo elements, indirectly illuminating the playground and casting a gentle ambient glow. The roof height varies according to gameplay zones, teacher access pathways, sightlines from adjacent buildings, and vehicle access through the courtyard, ensuring safety, comfort, and visual harmony.

Interactive Ground Design

The original concrete floor is transformed with painted contour lines, creating a 2D topography for imaginative play. Using AR technology via HoloLens 2 and Twinbuild, these lines respond to the surrounding environment, fostering a space where children are free to invent their own games. The playground does not dictate play; instead, it acts as a matrix for creative exploration, making every visit a unique adventure.

Infinity Playground exemplifies innovative, sustainable, and experiential playground design, blending traditional materials with modern technology to create a space for limitless imagination.
