Located on a 45 m² irregularly shaped site, The Cornerstone House is a prime example of innovative urban architecture. Designed to serve mixed commercial and residential purposes, this boutique building makes efficient use of its constrained space while enhancing the urban streetscape.
Architectural Design and Urban Response
Facade and Spatial Design
The building features a faceted facade with square-shaped windows randomly placed to optimize light and enhance privacy. The rough-textured grey paint and recessed balconies with diagonal balustrade walls contribute to a design that’s both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Interior Layout and Optimization
Inside, the layout maximizes space efficiency. Three flights of stairs are strategically positioned to connect the floors seamlessly, with functional areas like bathrooms and storage tucked neatly underneath.
Sustainable Features and Environmental Considerations
Natural Light and Ventilation
One of the standout features of The Cornerstone House is its approach to natural lighting and ventilation. A zig-zagging staircase culminates in a UV-protected glazed rooftop, bathing the interior in sunlight and reducing the need for artificial lighting.

Triangular stepping balconies provide not only privacy and noise insulation but also spaces for greenery, which brings vitality to both the interior and the streetscape.
