K’ab House by Lessmore Group: A Contemporary Refuge Rooted in Yucatán’s Natural Harmony
K’ab House blends Yucatán’s natural materials, sustainable design, and contemporary architecture to create a tranquil, light-filled refuge in Mérida.
A Tranquil Family Retreat in Mérida
Located on the northern outskirts of Mérida, Yucatán, K’ab House by Lessmore Group is a serene family residence designed to reconnect architecture with nature. Set on a generous 1,226.35-square-meter plot, this 421-square-meter home embraces the quiet beauty of its surroundings, creating a tranquil retreat away from the bustle of the city.

Architects Román González Jaramillo and Edmundo Fernández Fierros envisioned the project as a contemporary sanctuary that honors local traditions, natural materials, and climatic responsiveness — a home that evolves gracefully with time.

Regional Materials and Climate-Responsive Design
The architectural concept draws deeply from Yucatán’s construction heritage. The team used locally sourced materials such as rustic-finished concrete blocks and terracotta tones to strengthen the connection with the region’s soil and light. This approach not only enhances the home’s environmental integration but also ensures its thermal comfort in Mérida’s tropical climate.

Every surface and texture tells a story of balance between tradition and modernity. Materials that naturally age — concrete, wood, and stone — were chosen for their ability to evolve over time, creating a living architecture that transforms alongside its environment.

Volumetric Composition and Sensory Experience
The volumetric design of K’ab House reflects the colors and textures of Yucatán’s landscape. The soft terracotta hue of the walls recalls the region’s red earth paths, while contrasting beautifully with the lush green vegetation and the deep blue-green of the nearby cenotes.
Through a careful play of light and shadow, the house becomes a space for contemplation and calm. Its layered volumes and open courtyards allow sunlight to filter softly into interior spaces, creating a constantly changing atmosphere throughout the day.

Transparency, Light, and Connection to Nature
Large pane glass openings and delicate bone-colored frames bring a contemporary refinement to the façade. These elements invite natural light deep into the home while framing unobstructed views of the garden and courtyards.
This thoughtful transparency blurs the boundary between indoor and outdoor living, reinforcing a sense of openness and continuity that defines modern tropical architecture.

Architecture in Constant Evolution
K’ab House celebrates the beauty of transformation. As time passes, the materials will develop a natural patina, enriching the home’s aesthetic character. This organic aging process allows the architecture to evolve harmoniously with the environment, reflecting the rhythm of nature and the seasons of Yucatán.
Every material—whether the earthy concrete, the tactile wood, or the polished glass—contributes to an architectural dialogue between permanence and change, grounding the design in both time and place.

Sustainable Energy and Environmental Integration
Sustainability is at the heart of K’ab House. The residence is powered by solar panels, reducing energy consumption and supporting clean energy practices in the region. The integration of passive cooling, natural ventilation, and solar orientation ensures environmental efficiency without compromising comfort or aesthetics.
This holistic approach reflects Lessmore Group’s commitment to designing spaces that are both ecologically responsible and deeply connected to their cultural and natural contexts.

A Living Architecture Rooted in Culture and Nature
More than just a home, K’ab House represents a living architectural organism — one that breathes, changes, and adapts over time. Its thoughtful design integrates nature, technology, and culture to offer an experience of peaceful coexistence between people and their environment.
By merging regional craftsmanship with contemporary design thinking, Lessmore Group has created a project that honors Yucatán’s landscape while pushing the boundaries of modern Mexican architecture.
