MATRIOSKHOUSE

A project of such importance not only needs a good idea and execution, it also deserves a message that represents it, and that is why this project was born based on a concept, the Matrioska Russian dolls. In the same way that every time a smaller doll emerges from the previous doll, containing at the same time another smaller one, the house presented extends and gathers itself while protecting the occupant like a mother as those dolls do. This is also solving the main inconvenience that was found with the premise of getting a large home and at the same time easy to transport by those who need it.

The rooms are divided into four modules with a total of 20m2, the first room is dedicated to the kitchen and dining room, a second room designed to relax and/or work, the third would make up the personal hygiene and finally reaching the fourth and last where the bed is found.

The opening mechanism consists of modules with integrated sliders so they can glide, there are also stops between the walls so they won't fall once opened while ensuring the tightness between the joints of the compartments. The opening of the mechanism is carried out with a simple manoeuvre, pulling on the last compartment, which, being the smallest, is also the one that weighs the least, thus facilitating its extension, generating a certain inertia for extracting the rest.

Because of the sliding structure of the project, furniture could not be included in the middle or hooked to the side walls since these would collide with the next removable module, and that is why the tables remain folded in their resting form and become elegant tables once the dwelling has been extended.

As previously mentioned, great importance was attached to developing the project based on a concept, which was not easy at all, but once it was achieved, all the materials that could meet the requirements were studied, prioritizing above all the well-being of the the occupants and their comfortable development with the dwelling. That is why cardboard in a rib structure was chosen as the main material thanks to its insulating properties, its lightness and its low price.

Although the cardboard can be waterproofed with treatments, the abundance of rainfall in the UK could be a problem, so the entire cardboard structure has been lined with cellular polycarbonate to help with that waterproofness as well as with insulation.

That project does not looking to provide just a roof to sleep under and not be cold, that project aims to have gone a little further to give dignity that they may feel they have had to give up, adding a bathroom and a shower which can be filled with the same rainwater, a small electric stove, storage, customizable colors to make the house your own and beautiful windows.

Given its lightness (200Kg) it can be transported towed on a bicycle with an added adapter designed to be able to be attached to both a bicycle and a car, or even with a trolley.

For the optimal development of the project, some areas of the city would be allocated to the settlement of these homes, to supply them with basic electricity and water connections.

To be sure that the lightness of the house does not become an inconvenient when it comes to stability, since it could be knocked over by the wind, an anchoring system has been designed to prevent that this will not happen.

The concrete block has a vertical hole that coincides with some holes in the floor of the house, so a steel pivot is inserted from inside fixing it. To secure the anchorage, both elements also have a transversal hole that, when inserting and turning a rod as a key, remains completely fixated.

This problem is not only present in the UK, it is a worldwide problem and that is why this project seeks to give a decent home to all those people who need it and promote all types of mobile homes, whether they are larger or smaller. If the project helps generate new ideas, it is already considered a victory.
