The Roof House by IF (Integrated Field) is a remarkable example of a modern sloped roof house that seamlessly integrates functionality, privacy, and architectural elegance. Designed to reflect the personality and aspirations of the homeowners, this three-level residence in Thailand is a result of an immersive design process that included direct input from the family members.

From the initial meeting, the homeowners provided a clear vision for their dream house, which enabled the architects to craft a space that aligns with their lifestyle while incorporating innovative design elements. The project emphasizes comfort, a warm social atmosphere, and a sense of togetherness, ensuring that family members feel connected while still enjoying private retreats within the home.

Designing for Functionality and Harmony

Set on a rectangular plot spanning 189 square wah, the Roof House was designed to accommodate a family of four and their pet. One of the key requirements was to create a welcoming yet discreet home that does not appear overly grand from the outside. The design team placed great importance on balancing openness with privacy, resulting in an inviting common area while keeping the personal spaces tucked away at the rear of the property.

The architectural form was developed with a focus on spatial fluidity. A central courtyard acts as the heart of the home, linking key areas such as the kitchen, dining room, and living space. This layout fosters a natural connection between levels, allowing family members to maintain visual and physical interaction throughout the house. The double-height space between the first and second floors enhances the sense of openness while maintaining the intimacy of private quarters.

The Signature Sloped Roof

A defining element of the Roof House is its modern sloped roof, which extends over the entire structure, giving the appearance of a single-story home from the exterior. This subtle approach to scale creates a harmonious relationship with the surrounding environment while ensuring a well-defined interior organization.

The IF team experimented with various angles before finalizing the perfect slope that balances aesthetics with practicality. The carefully designed roof contributes to the home’s passive cooling strategy, allowing for efficient ventilation and reducing heat accumulation. By prioritizing energy-efficient design principles, the residence achieves a sustainable balance between comfort and environmental consciousness.

Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Integration
