Multi-Generational House with a View: A Paradigm of Multi-Generational Living Architecture
Austrian house renovation by MWArchitekten fuses traditional and modern elements for multi-generational family living.
Nestled on the hillside of the Rhine valley, the Multi-Generational House with a View designed by MWArchitekten, unfolds a new chapter in multi-generational living architecture. This 370 m² residence in Austria, meticulously captured by Adolf Bereuter, seamlessly blends the traditional with the contemporary to accommodate three generations under one roof.

Reviving Tradition with Modern Intervention
Originally erected in the 1980s, the house underwent several adaptations to meet the evolving needs of its inhabitants. The latest renovation not only preserves the essence of the original structure but also introduces a modern wooden construction for the upper floor, enhancing the living experience while respecting the architectural heritage of the region.

Architectural Strategy: Merging Past and Present
The design strategy was anchored in reverting to the simplicity and clarity of the village's original buildings, characterized by a solid, plastered base and a wooden cubature atop. By wrapping the existing and new structures in a uniform shell of natural fir, MWArchitekten has created a dialogue between the interior and exterior, fostering a symbiotic relationship with the surrounding landscape.

A Home for All Ages
The architectural narrative of this home is one of inclusivity and flexibility, offering distinct yet interconnected living spaces for each generation. The renovation and reconstruction of the basement and ground floor, coupled with the addition of a modern wooden structure for the upper level, have facilitated the creation of a spacious living-dining area that spans two floors, meeting the collective and individual needs of the family.

Interior Design: A Cohesive Aesthetic
The interior of the house has undergone a transformation into a coherent interplay of woods and surface treatments, echoing the craftsmanship of a finely crafted piece of furniture. This meticulous attention to detail ensures that the home's aesthetic is both unified and welcoming, reflecting the warmth and intimacy of multi-generational living.

A Model for Future Generations
The Multi-Generational House with a View stands as a testament to the possibilities inherent in multi-generational living architecture. Through thoughtful renovation and an empathetic approach to design, MWArchitekten has crafted a home that is not only a sanctuary for its current inhabitants but also a blueprint for future architectural endeavors that seek to accommodate the complexities of family life across generations.
In this residence, every detail, from the choice of materials to the spatial configuration, has been considered with the goal of fostering harmony, connection, and continuity between the generations, making it a beacon of multi-generational living in the heart of Austria.
