The Panal Sustainable Regenerative Condominium in Santiago, Chile, is a pioneering project by AYMA Arquitectura y Medio Ambiente LTDA., designed as a mixed-use, regenerative residential complex. Developed on a sponge-type micro-neighborhood master plan, Panal integrates seven diverse units that combine housing, workshops, showrooms, and offices, fostering a high-quality urban lifestyle. Its strategic planning reduces travel time to work and recreational activities, enhancing community interaction and sustainability.


Site & Design Concept
Each unit is thoughtfully arranged along the natural slope of the hill, offering breathtaking eastern views of the Andes Mountains and panoramic western views of Santiago. Site-specific design solutions guide the placement of gardens, outdoor grills, and façades. Controlled openings and stone walls, sourced from on-site excavations, serve multiple purposes including land containment, landscaping, and boundary definition.


Sustainability Features
Panal’s design focuses on regenerative architecture and minimal environmental impact:
- Green Roofs & Native Gardens: Covering 90% of the site, these areas form an ecological corridor connecting the Andes with the city and maintaining biodiversity.
- Permeable Pavements: Surfaces are 100% absorbent, naturally capturing rainwater for irrigation.
- Water Recycling: A wetland-type treatment plant recycles wastewater to irrigate gardens, green roofs, and communal areas, reducing water consumption by 80%.
- Low-Carbon Construction: The quincha construction system uses earth from excavations for insulation and plaster, complemented by solar-oriented design and green roofs, achieving thermal efficiency and up to 80% energy savings on air conditioning.


Community Engagement
During construction, AYMA organized educational workshops for children, emphasizing the importance of conscious, sustainable building practices. The project also prioritizes integration with nature, employing natural materials, deciduous shade, and native vegetation to harmonize the built environment with the surrounding landscape.

Panal contributes directly to 11 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, promoting sustainable cities, responsible consumption, climate action, clean water management, and biodiversity preservation.
