The Vision Behind the Patio House

The client’s return to Belgium after years abroad marked a desire to reconnect with family, friends, and the serene beauty of rural living. Situated in a quiet neighborhood with uninspiring surroundings yet stunning western views, the design filters out visual noise and invites abundant natural light. The Patio House merges the convenience of apartment living with the charm of a free-standing home, offering a personal sanctuary that fosters connection and tranquility.

A Home Centered Around Nature

At the heart of the Patio House lies a spacious living area that embraces nature. The open-plan design integrates an indoor garden, orienting the home toward the picturesque western landscape. A sculptural kitchen island crafted in soft pink tones anchors the space, serving as both a functional element and a visual centerpiece. This multifunctional area seamlessly transitions between dining, entertaining, and relaxation.

• Home Office and Guest Accommodation:A sleek black marble wall houses a discreet home office, illuminated by light from an adjoining patio. This space easily transforms into a guest room when needed, adding versatility to the design.
• Hidden Passages and Storage:Behind custom walnut cabinetry lies a concealed passage connecting the master suite, guest bathroom, pantry, and storage spaces. This design choice maintains the home's minimalist aesthetic while ensuring practicality.

Materiality and Connection with Nature

The Patio House’s material palette reflects Studio Okami’s commitment to blending architecture with the landscape. Warm pink bricks paired with custom terracotta mortar create a tactile, earthy connection. The garden design further enhances this bond, featuring seashell pathways in yellow and brown tones that complement the home’s secretive, intimate character.
