Architectural Excellence by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill

Pendry Manhattan West, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), redefines luxury hospitality in New York City. Located within Manhattan West, an eight-acre mixed-use development adjacent to Moynihan Train Hall, this hotel seamlessly integrates sophisticated design with urban dynamism. With an expansive area of 200,500 square feet, the 164-room hotel is a masterclass in modern architecture, blending curvilinear facades, high-end materials, and sustainable innovations.

A Distinctive Identity Through Materials and Form

The hotel’s striking curved façade sets it apart from the surrounding skyline. The black striated granite cladding on the lower amenity levels and the spandrel panels between the upper floors emphasize its sculptural form while adding depth and texture. The main tower is complemented by a two-story retail and restaurant pavilion, topped with a boutique rooftop bar, enclosed in curved aluminum and glass pavilions that mirror the fluidity of the hotel’s design.

A Modern Interpretation of the Bay Window

The building’s convex glass curves reinterpret the classic bay window, offering each guest room breathtaking panoramic views of New York City. These floor-to-ceiling glass panels are framed by horizontal stone bands, creating a rhythmic façade that balances transparency and privacy. The opaque concave sections between the windows elegantly conceal structural columns, reinforcing the building’s architectural integrity.

Sustainable Design and Energy Efficiency

Pendry Manhattan West is not just about aesthetics—it is a benchmark for sustainable architecture. Despite the appearance of continuous curving glass, only 22% of the curtain wall panels required bending, minimizing material waste. The design incorporates three standardized radii, optimizing fabrication efficiency while maintaining the building’s fluid geometry. With a 37% window-to-wall ratio, the structure ensures enhanced insulation, reduced energy consumption, and lower environmental impact.

Elevated Amenities and Urban Integration

Beyond its striking façade, Pendry Manhattan West offers a curated selection of designer amenities that enhance guest experience and contribute to the vibrant urban fabric of Manhattan West. The hotel includes a state-of-the-art fitness center, private meeting spaces, and multiple outdoor terraces that capitalize on the surrounding public realm. The carefully orchestrated entry sequence seamlessly links guests to premium retail outlets, corporate lobbies, and world-class dining destinations, making Pendry Manhattan West a key player in New York’s evolving hospitality landscape.
