Puertecillo House, designed by reBA Studio, is a contemporary summer beach retreat for a large family, located in Litueche, Chile. Nestled on sandy, sloping terrain that gently descends toward the ocean, the project thoughtfully preserves the surrounding coniferous forest, integrating nature seamlessly into the design. The house, partially constructed at the time of commissioning, provided a foundation that guided the careful organization of the architectural program.

The residence spans 400 m² and is articulated through a series of programmatic volumes of varying widths and heights. These volumes define public and private zones, including the bedrooms for different family members, while being interconnected by a C-shaped corridor that organizes circulation and spatial relationships on site. The rhythm of sloping roofs with strategically placed skylights enhances the interior experience, flooding the dining room and master bedroom with natural light.

The north-facing façade opens up to expansive terraces and large windows, maximizing stunning ocean views, while the south side houses a protected central courtyard that serves as a wind-shielded outdoor space, allowing the family to enjoy the outdoors even on gusty days.

Wood is the defining material throughout Puertecillo House. Locally sourced Radiata Pine forms the structural framework of floors and walls, while Spruce cladding provides warmth and texture for both interior and exterior finishes. I-joist beams were employed to span large openings in key areas like the living and dining rooms, combining structural integrity with aesthetic elegance. This choice of material not only enhances the house’s natural aesthetic but also reduces the carbon footprint while meeting high thermal performance standards.
