PZ House by mf+arquitetos – A Modern Weekend Retreat in Avaré, Brazil
PZ House by mf+arquitetos is a modern weekend retreat in Brazil, blending timber, concrete, indoor-outdoor living, and serene dam views.
Nestled along the serene Jurumirim Dam in Avaré, PZ House by mf+arquitetos stands as a masterful weekend retreat, designed to offer the family a tranquil escape deeply connected to nature. From its inception, the architectural concept prioritized the relationship with the surrounding water landscape, ensuring that the views of the dam remain visible from virtually every point within the residence. This seamless integration with the environment forms the foundation of the home's design, harmoniously blending interior and exterior experiences.

Thoughtful Spatial Organization
The residence is articulated around a distinctive ‘T’-shaped volume, providing an efficient and organized layout that responds to the family’s diverse needs. At the heart of the design lies the central entrance hall, accentuated by natural wood mashrabiya doors, exposed concrete walls, and warm wooden panels. Complementing this, a concrete pergola allows natural light to filter through, producing a dynamic interplay of light and shadow that enhances the ambiance throughout the day.
The main kitchen seamlessly connects to the living room via retractable wooden doors, promoting fluid circulation and fostering social interaction. Between the living room and the gourmet leisure area, a block clad in ebonized wood houses the bathrooms, thoughtfully positioned to ensure both privacy and functional efficiency.

Indoor-Outdoor Connectivity
The gourmet area, positioned at the pinnacle of the central block, offers unobstructed views of the dam and the swimming pool. With floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors, the boundaries between interior and exterior dissolve, creating a holistic outdoor living experience where nature merges effortlessly with modern living spaces. This design approach reinforces the home’s commitment to blending architecture with its natural surroundings.

Private and Social Zones
The layout clearly separates public and private zones. On the right side of the central volume, practical spaces like the garage, laundry, guest rooms, and a fully equipped gym cater to functional needs. The left side houses the intimate areas, including the master suite, children’s suites, and a cozy TV lounge, ensuring family members enjoy privacy and tranquility.

Materiality and Sustainability
PZ House showcases a deliberate selection of materials inspired by nature, balancing durability with aesthetic appeal. Concrete and wood dominate the palette, emphasizing natural textures and finishes. The use of glued laminated timber construction not only enhanced structural efficiency but also accelerated the construction process, reflecting sustainable and innovative building practices.

Interior Design and Ambiance
The interior furnishings were curated to complement both the architecture and the surrounding landscape. Linen and leather armchairs offer sophisticated comfort, while all furniture elements harmonize with the home’s design language, emphasizing elegance and connection to nature. Strategically designed lighting systems highlight architectural details and landscaping, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere that transitions seamlessly from day to night.

A Weekend House in Harmony with Nature
Ultimately, PZ House embodies a modern architectural approach that balances functionality, elegance, and a deep connection to the natural environment. Its thoughtful design, material authenticity, and open spatial planning transform it into an ideal weekend refuge where family life, leisure, and nature coexist harmoniously.
