Renovation of House in Vadodara by Manoj Patel Design Studio
A budget-friendly home renovation blending brick craftsmanship, passive design, and modern aesthetics within a compact urban setting in Vadodara.
A Contemporary Transformation Rooted in Memory and Material Expression
Located in the heart of Vadodara, this residential renovation by Manoj Patel Design Studio thoughtfully merges contemporary design interventions with the existing spatial identity of the house. Surrounded by dense urban fabric, the project reflects a sensitive reimagination that honors the clients’ deep emotional attachment to their home while introducing modern comfort and visual openness—all within a modest budget.

Dialogue Between Structure, Light, and Material
The design strategy revolves around creating a dialogue between the existing structural grid and newly introduced architectural punctures. These allow light and air to flow more freely through the house, creating a more visually connected and climate-responsive environment. Passive cooling techniques, strategic spatial expansion, and the removal of slabs for double-height volumes ensure both functional adaptability and thermal comfort. The spatial configuration enhances a sense of openness and vertical fluidity, while preserving privacy within.

An Artistic Façade of Brick and Light
The west-facing brick façade becomes a canvas of architectural storytelling. Composed with stretcher bonds, jali patterns, and free-form arches, the brickwork not only filters sunlight and casts ever-changing shadows but also creates a cultural resonance with traditional Indian materials and techniques. Subtle tones, earthy hues, and textured grey walls bring cohesion and elegance to the exterior.

Interior Palette: Where Earth Meets Elegance
The interiors are equally expressive. From the terrazzo-inspired marble flooring to river green hues and exposed brick walls, the home exudes both raw material honesty and refined aesthetics. Sleek furnishings, minimalistic joinery, and accent lighting celebrate tactile experiences and spatial intimacy.
The living area reveals a flushed main door that blends into the wall, setting a tone of surprise and subtlety. A TV unit floats against a brick backdrop, while grey upholstery and hidden storage create a clean visual language.

Central Interactions and Temple Narratives
At the heart of the home is the dining area, located beneath a double-height void. This central space becomes the emotional and visual anchor, connecting multiple levels. Adjacent sits a built-in window bench—ideal for moments of solitude or casual conversation.
The temple area, designed as a symbolic shikhara, features an ornamental arch that stretches vertically across levels. The interplay of shadows and daylight from a large fenestration enriches the spiritual atmosphere, while green pockets and earthy textures maintain a natural connection.

Craftsmanship in Bedrooms and Bathrooms
Each bedroom reflects an individual character. One showcases a herringbone brick backdrop and integrated wardrobes with niches, while another experiments with floating brick patterns and an informal lounge. The master suite extends into a private brick-crafted balcony overlooking the dining atrium.
Bathrooms, designed with a rustic cottage theme, incorporate natural light through skylights, creating serene and spa-like settings.

Outdoor Serenity and Terrace Experiences
At the terrace level, outdoor seating mimics a café-like ambience with curved punctures, cozy nooks, and materials like pebbles, flat bricks, and tiles that activate sensory engagement. This elevated space encourages calm conversations while offering a bird’s-eye view of the transformed home.
Manoj Patel Design Studio’s Renovation of House is more than just an architectural update—it’s a deeply personal spatial transformation. The project succeeds in reimagining a traditional dwelling into a climatically responsive, artistically vibrant, and materially expressive home that resonates with both memory and modernity.
