RF House by Sommet + Enciam: A Contemporary Bolivian Residence Rooted in Nature
RF House blends concrete, wood, and glass across intersecting volumes with patios that preserve existing trees, creating bright, spacious, nature-connected living.
Located in the lush gated community of Porongo in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, RF House by Sommet + Enciam is a contemporary residential project that embraces its natural surroundings while offering a refined, modern living experience. Completed in 2023 and spanning 946 m², the residence is shaped by the site’s existing vegetation, creating a home where architecture and nature coexist seamlessly.

A Design Shaped by Landscape and Existing Trees
One of the core design strategies was respecting the vegetation already present on-site. Instead of clearing trees, the architects designed two intersecting volumes, forming a series of open patios that protect and highlight the mature trees. These patios generate visual connections, natural ventilation, and moments of calm throughout the home.
At the heart of the main volume lies a central patio that marks the main entrance. This courtyard becomes both a physical and emotional anchor, establishing the home’s vertical and horizontal circulation.

Spatial Organization: Social Below, Private Above
The main volume consists of two clearly defined floors:
Ground Floor – Social Spaces
- Living and dining areas
- Kitchen opening to the landscape
- Indoor–outdoor spaces that flow naturally through large glazed surfaces
Upper Floor – Private Program
- Bedrooms and intimate family spaces
- Designed for privacy while maintaining visual connectivity to the patios and trees
The secondary volume contains leisure areas and operational zones, providing a functional separation between recreation and everyday living.
Semi-Buried Service Zone and Fluid Circulation
The service area of RF House is semi-buried at the front, concealed behind an architectural plane that extends beyond the main grid. This subtle move softens the massing and breaks the rigidity of the structural module, giving the home a lighter, more dynamic character.
Inside, the central circulation spine and open sightlines ensure a sense of spaciousness and natural flow. Transparency—achieved through generous glazing—creates an airy environment filled with natural light.

Material Palette: Structure and Warmth in Harmony
The design contrasts exterior solidity with interior warmth:
Exterior
- Exposed concrete
- Clean, structural expression
- Strong geometric lines
Interior
- Warm wood surfaces
- Soft tonal variations
- A welcoming, intimate atmosphere
Glass serves as the mediator between these two worlds, enhancing transparency, continuity, and indoor–outdoor connection.

Modular Construction for Efficiency
A key technical strategy is the use of modulation, ensuring standardized material sizes. This approach:
- Reduces construction time
- Lowers costs
- Minimizes material waste
- Creates a harmonious architectural rhythm
