Riba House by TEC - Taller EC | Puembo, Ecuador
Riba House in Puembo, Ecuador, by TEC - Taller EC, harmoniously integrates a central carob tree, curved design, and Andean landscape views.
Riba House, located in the scenic valley of Puembo in the Andes, is a residential masterpiece that embraces its natural surroundings. Situated on a unique corner and curved lot, the design is fundamentally guided by the presence of a majestic carob tree at the center of the site. This tree acts as the conceptual and visual anchor of the home, framing views of the city of Quito and connecting the interior spaces with the surrounding landscape.

Spatial Organization & Architectural Flow
Spanning 520 m² across two levels, the house is designed as a flowing bar that encircles the carob tree, fostering an intimate relationship between architecture and nature. From the first walk through the site, the tree inspired a design approach built from the inside out, ensuring that every room maintains a visual and spatial connection to this natural element.
On the ground floor, public areas are arranged around a central patio, integrating seamlessly with the front street and emphasizing transparency, openness, and interaction with the outdoor environment. The upper level houses private spaces that face the Andean mountains, extending the living experience onto terraces that merge architecture with the horizon and surrounding landscapes.

Façade & Material Expression
The light and permeable façade enhances the home’s curved geometry, using vertical elements to create rhythm, cohesion, and a refined architectural expression. A carefully positioned main opening signals the entrance while providing a visual pause, reinforcing the contemplative and serene character of the home.

Conceptual Significance
Casa Riba is more than a residence—it is a thoughtful architectural gesture that celebrates the unique site, honors the central carob tree, and highlights the essential connection between built form and nature. This project exemplifies the harmonious integration of landscape, light, and spatial design in contemporary residential architecture.
