Located in the vibrant 11th arrondissement of Paris, the Richard Lenoir House and Garden by Florquin Studio reimagines an old industrial workshop as a contemporary urban sanctuary. This 230 m² renovation blends the building’s industrial heritage with refined modern design, creating a tranquil residence organized around a lush, planted patio. The project balances architectural sensitivity, functional innovation, and a strong connection to nature—an approach that elevates everyday living in one of Paris’s densest districts.

A Garden-Centered Transformation in the Parisian Urban Fabric

At the core of the renovation is the transformation of a cul-de-sac courtyard into a thriving green patio, now serving as the home’s central landscape. The U-shaped residential structure gently wraps around this planted garden, allowing natural light and greenery to flow into every level. This strategy enhances urban biodiversity, supports natural ventilation, and establishes a peaceful visual anchor within the residence.

By integrating vegetation directly into the architectural circulation, Florquin Studio creates a home where nature is not an accessory but a defining element.

Double-Height Spaces and Light-Filled Interiors

The ground floor showcases dramatic double-height volumes, amplifying openness and vertical spatial continuity. Beneath this level, an office and a cozy movie room benefit from skylight domes that filter daylight from above, ensuring that even the underground spaces feel bright and inviting.

Two two-story wings extend from the central patio, housing four intimate and serene bedrooms. Across these spaces, the architects maintain a delicate balance between privacy and openness.

A Facade Reimagined with Glass and Transparency

A major architectural intervention includes the installation of three expansive glass openings along the façade facing the patio. These new apertures dissolve boundaries between interior and exterior, strengthening the connection to the garden and establishing fluid visual dialogue throughout the home.

In warm months, a relaxed summer lounge opens directly to the patio. During winter, a refined and enveloping lounge takes center stage, framed by a breathtaking ornamental wooden library that adds artisanal character and timeless sophistication.

Kitchen, Dining, and Everyday Living in Harmony

At the heart of the home, a modern open kitchen becomes the social hub of daily life. A semi-transparent partition maintains spatial separation while allowing natural light to circulate. Adjacent to the kitchen, a dining room sits beneath a glass roof, ensuring a luminous and uplifting atmosphere throughout the year.

The combination of transparency, warm textures, and thoughtful spatial layering creates a sense of continuity between cooking, dining, and lounging areas.

Material Warmth and Coastal-Inspired Interiors

The material palette is defined by wood, stone, and earthy tones, chosen for their natural warmth and timeless appeal. These calming hues subtly evoke coastal landscapes, infusing the home with a relaxed and sunlit ambiance. The result is a residence that feels grounded, human-centered, and deeply connected to its environment—both natural and urban.
