River Isle House by Waterfrom Design – Seamless Architecture Embracing Nature in New Taipei City
River Isle House by Waterfrom Design in New Taipei blends organic forms, vaulted ceilings, and natural views, creating flexible, intimate, and nature-connected living.
Located along the serene banks of the Tamsui River in New Taipei City, Taiwan, the River Isle House by Waterfrom Design (2025) is a masterful vacation home that blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior living. Spanning 350 m², this residence thoughtfully frames sweeping views of water and mangroves through elegantly curved architectural forms, creating a harmonious dialogue between the built environment and the natural landscape.

Connecting Architecture with Nature
Guided by a simple yet profound question—how can architecture sustain a conversation with nature?—the design prioritizes connection. From the interplay of light and shadow to the balance between private retreats and communal spaces, every element fosters a dynamic, flexible environment. Rather than imposing rigid spatial definitions, the home is designed to adapt and evolve over time, responding fluidly to the lifestyles of its occupants.

A Living Space Designed Around Human Interaction
At the heart of the River Isle House is the kitchen island, reimagined as more than a functional workspace. Inspired by the flowing curves of the Tamsui River, its organic form encourages multiple orientations and perspectives of the surrounding landscape. The island embodies the homeowners’ philosophy of shared living: maintaining closeness and connection even during everyday routines. Here, cooking, working, and gathering converge seamlessly in one central, vibrant hub.

Spatial Freedom and Architectural Fluidity
The principle of “release” guided the interior design, emphasizing freedom, movement, and flexibility. A vaulted ceiling replaces conventional flat planes, unifying irregular beams and expanding the vertical space. This creates interiors that feel open and airy while retaining intimacy. Through subtle material choices—warm wood finishes, reflective glass surfaces, and thoughtfully placed lighting—the residence achieves a perfect balance between comfort and elegance.

A Home in Constant Dialogue
The River Isle House stands as a testament to living architecture: a home where privacy coexists with communal life, where design responds to the rhythms of nature, and where interiors and exteriors merge effortlessly. It’s a residence that grows with its inhabitants, offering ever-changing views, experiences, and moments of connection.
