Suite 9 at Delft University of Technology Campus by Studioninedots: Innovative Student Housing Redefined
Suite 9 at TU Delft features 137 modular student residences, a vibrant central Heart, sustainable design, and innovative communal spaces.
Located at the heart of Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) Campus in the Netherlands, Suite 9 is a groundbreaking student residence designed by Studioninedots. Completed in 2025, this 6200 m² modular housing project introduces 137 self-contained student units, redefining modern campus living with a focus on community, flexibility, and sustainability.

At the center of Suite 9 lies the ‘Heart’, a semi-outdoor communal space that anchors the building’s design. This versatile hub encourages interaction and spontaneity, accommodating activities from outdoor studying and casual gatherings to organized campus events. Stepped platforms within the Heart function as terraces, seating areas, or informal stages, fostering a dynamic social environment that actively engages students and visitors alike.

Strategically located along Balthasar van der Polweg, Suite 9 intentionally diverges from Carel Weeber’s rigid urban grid, presenting itself as a striking architectural object that captivates both residents and the broader campus community. The building’s prefabricated modular units, developed in collaboration with Daiwa House Modular, allowed the project to be completed in only 26 weeks while maintaining high standards of quality, precision, and design innovation.

Inside, Suite 9 emphasizes comfort and functionality. The collective interiors include a communal living room with kitchen and dining area, cozy study corners, a TV lounge, laundry facilities, and intimate seating nooks. A full-height glass wall connects the communal spaces to the university campus, blending indoor and outdoor experiences seamlessly. Each residential floor is carefully organized around the Heart, offering unique spatial experiences while promoting social connectivity.

The building’s exterior is equally compelling. Clad in graphite Eternit TE 80 panels with matt black window frames, Suite 9 features perforated panels that create shifting patterns, hinting at interior functions and illuminating the building at night with captivating light effects. Inside, warm Sucupira Amarela timber enhances the collective spaces, complemented by integrated furniture and planted elements that provide a healthy, inviting atmosphere.
