Innovative Office Design for the Future
The JJ Mack Building, designed by Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands, represents a cutting-edge vision of future workplaces. Commissioned by Helical plc and Ashby Capital, this stone-clad, nine-story building combines sustainable architecture, smart building technology, and hybrid working solutions to attract and retain top talent in London’s competitive office market.
Strategically located just three minutes from Farringdon Station (Elizabeth Line, Thameslink, London Underground), the building offers effortless access to a vibrant neighborhood filled with cultural landmarks, restaurants, and cafés—perfect for post-work leisure or client meetings.

Architectural and Interior Highlights
The Charterhouse Street façade thoughtfully responds to the neighboring listed Port of London Authority building, maintaining a harmonious urban scale. A double-height south-facing lobby welcomes visitors with stone flooring, bronze detailing, reclaimed English timber, and a statement bronze reception desk.
The east façade features a full-height atrium, adorned with striking artwork stretching from the ground floor to the fifth floor, enclosed in fire-rated glazing to create a light-filled and inspiring workspace.

Future-Ready Amenities and Sustainability
Designed to support Platinum WELL-certified fit-outs, the JJ Mack Building includes:
- A space-age bike park with 426 spaces and repair stations connected to the Farringdon Road cycle superhighway
- Spa-quality changing areas with 672 lockers, 30 showers, hairdryers, and hair straighteners
- Expansive roof terraces totaling 9,127 sqft, featuring two bee colonies to connect occupants with nature
The building integrates advanced fresh air systems, low/no VOC paint, and flexible floor plates for adaptive tenant layouts. Many workstations offer breathtaking views of St Paul’s Cathedral, The Shard, and Smithfield Market.

Smart, Sustainable Technology
JJ Mack Building is a smart, energy-efficient office:
- BREEAM Outstanding at the design stage
- EPC A rating for energy performance
- 144 photovoltaic panels reduce on-site energy consumption
- Groundbreaking water management system lowers mains water usage by up to 70%
- Floors divided into four zones for localized air, lighting, and heating, minimizing energy waste and carbon emissions

This combination of intelligent design, sustainability, and future-proof technology positions the JJ Mack Building as a model for next-generation office architecture in London.
