Nestled in the lush jungles of Tulum, Mexico, the Tropical House by Jaque Studio is a 580 m² single-level residence designed to harmonize with its extraordinary natural surroundings. Completed in 2022, the house embraces the unique qualities of the site, featuring a natural spring at its center, dense tropical foliage, and an unusual topography uncommon to the typically flat region.

The residence is carefully organized in an L-shaped layout, oriented north to optimize natural light, cross-ventilation, and uninterrupted views of the jungle and central water feature. Each of the four bedrooms includes private open-air patios, merging indoor and outdoor living while ensuring privacy and intimacy.

A central hallway functions as both a circulation space and an expansive terrace, drawing inspiration from traditional Mexican haciendas. High ceilings throughout the house maintain cooler interior spaces while offering expansive vistas toward the lush surroundings. The design emphasizes sustainable living, making the house 100% self-sufficient. Solar panels generate electricity, while water is filtered and softened on-site, and a constructed wetland treats sewage. Notably, 77% of the property preserves preexisting trees and native vegetation, reinforcing the integration with the landscape.

Materials were carefully selected to reflect local craftsmanship and sustainable practices. Wood serves as the primary material, chosen for its low carbon footprint, renewable nature, and resilience to tropical climates. Limestone and chukum finishes further enhance the organic aesthetic, blending the building seamlessly into its natural context.

Tropical House embodies a philosophy of eco-conscious luxury, offering a retreat where every space encourages relaxation, connection with nature, and wellness. Its design respects the land while providing contemporary comforts, illustrating how modern architecture can exist in harmony with the environment.
