Un Toit – Parisian Residence by Atelier du Pont: A Safe and Dignified Refuge in the Heart of Paris
Un Toit – Parisian Residence by Atelier du Pont provides safe, dignified, and sustainable temporary housing for women in central Paris.
Located in central Paris, Un Toit – Parisian Residence by Atelier du Pont is a thoughtfully designed housing project offering safety and dignity to women who have experienced violence. Commissioned by the Vilogia Group and operated by the associations FIT "Une Femme, Un Toit" and Aurore, this residential refuge provides temporary accommodation—a crucial transitional step for women reclaiming independence and security.

The residence exemplifies a harmonious blend of contemporary architecture and Parisian design heritage, using noble materials and a sensitive, sustainable construction approach. The building communicates stability and serenity, offering elegant yet functional housing far removed from the uncertainty and precariousness these women previously faced. Its solid brick façade, insulated walls, and durable concrete structure ensure both long-lasting quality and a sense of permanence.

This project faced significant technical challenges due to Paris’s narrow streets and weight restrictions, prohibiting machinery above 3.5 tons. The team implemented innovative construction solutions, including off-site unloading platforms, underground material transportation, conveyor belts, and kit-based equipment assembly—all executed without a crane.

The residence is designed as a welcoming, secure, and sunlit environment. A wide entrance porch offers a smooth transition from the city into a private, peaceful sanctuary. Open, cross-ventilated passages connect the entrance hall to a central landscaped garden, around which common living areas are arranged. Upper-floor corridors are naturally lit to create a soothing atmosphere, guiding residents to 81 compact yet well-equipped studios. Large windows maintain a strong visual connection to the outdoors while ensuring privacy and comfort.
Through its thoughtful spatial design, sustainable construction, and human-centered approach, Un Toit – Parisian Residence stands as a vital architectural response to social need, embodying dignity, safety, and hope for its residents.
