V8 House by TNT Architects: A Harmonious Fusion of Tradition, Nature, and Modern Vietnamese Architecture
V8 House blends traditional Vietnamese design with modern architecture, featuring layered gardens, passive cooling, and nature-integrated living spaces.
Located in the dense urban fabric of Vinh, Vietnam, the V8 House by TNT Architects is a modern reinterpretation of traditional Vietnamese living. Designed for an extended family, this 550-square-meter residence skillfully balances privacy, communal interaction, and a deep connection with nature, all while responding sensitively to its compact and architecturally diverse neighborhood.

A Modern Courtyard House Rooted in Vietnamese Heritage
Facing east to west and enclosed by high-density development, the design of V8 House reclaims traditional spatial concepts with a contemporary language. Inspired by multi-layered space planning in vernacular Vietnamese architecture, the architects created a flowing transition between open and enclosed areas, blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors.
Central to the scheme is a lush internal garden articulated by layered vegetation and a symbolic wooden bridge, dividing the space into two zones—one for private bedrooms and another for shared family activities. This intervention serves not only as a visual and spatial anchor but also enhances privacy, creates depth, and reinforces a dialogue between human life and natural elements.

Architecture as a Bridge Between Past and Present
A standout feature of the V8 House is the revived Vietnamese porch, a semi-outdoor space traditionally used for social interaction. Once disappearing in modern developments, TNT Architects reintroduce it here as a transitional threshold that merges aesthetics and function. The porch acts as a gateway between public and private realms, leading into vital spaces like the living room, dining area, and kitchen—all flooded with natural light and ventilation.
The internal courtyard at the heart of the residence serves as a natural buffer, regulating temperature and mitigating harsh western sunlight, while simultaneously fostering cross-ventilation and sensory openness throughout the house.

Elevated Form and Structure
On the upper floor, the architecture is consolidated into a floating square block that hovers above brick fencing walls. This spanning volume enhances the sense of lightness and allows the entire ground floor to function as an extension of the garden, reinforcing a seamless living environment.
Crafted with precision, the structure integrates brickwork, wood, and concrete with natural finishes that reflect the local context. Lighting, curated by SV Light, enhances the tactile materiality and spatial transitions, offering warmth and character after sunset.
