VERTI-PARK: Reinventing Urban Mobility with Vertical Green Architecture
VERTI-PARK redefines green architecture by fusing smart parking, public sports, and vertical parks into a single urban structure.
In the heart of Manhattan, where density meets demand, VERTI-PARK proposes an innovative urban architecture concept: a high-rise solution that merges green spaces, smart parking, and recreational amenities into a single vertical ecosystem. Designed by Shreejit and recognized with a Jury Commendation in the Yo Parking 2019 competition, the project directly responds to New York City's critical shortage of open areas, sports infrastructure, and affordable parking.
The Urban Crisis: Space vs. Functionality
New York City continues to experience high urban density and rapid population growth. While public transit caters to millions, the persistent need for personal mobility has only escalated the strain on parking infrastructure. Traditional parking structures no longer meet the city’s requirements, and land scarcity makes expansive horizontal solutions impractical.
Simultaneously, New Yorkers are demanding more than just parking. In a city where Central Park is the only major green respite, residents need more outdoor recreation spaces to support physical and mental well-being. The lack of accessible sports facilities exacerbates the issue, especially in Midtown, where density is highest.

Vertical Integration: Parking Meets Public Life
VERTI-PARK rises as a multifunctional architectural typology. It integrates:
- Smart vertical parking across multiple floors, including stack systems and electric charging points.
- Green architecture featuring layered gardens, jogging tracks, and yoga zones across various levels.
- Public sports infrastructure with basketball courts, tennis courts, swimming pools, boxing rings, and gyms.
- Civic spaces like amphitheaters, performance zones, cafes, and local shops.
Each floor is designed as an individual module, shaped with curvilinear forms to maximize views and ventilation. These organic forms also mimic the visual diversity of New York’s skyline while breaking the monotony of standard tower typologies.

Location-Driven Design
Located just two blocks from Madison Square Garden, one of NYC’s largest sports arenas, VERTI-PARK leverages its site to reinforce public activity. It draws inspiration from nearby pocket parks, stacking their essence vertically to multiply their utility. Through its mix of facilities, the building functions not just as a parking garage, but as a lifestyle hub—a vertical community.
Sustainability as Core Strategy
Green architecture isn't just an aesthetic. The tower integrates moisture harvesting canopies, rooftop cafes, and ecological terraces, all contributing to sustainable urbanism. With climate resilience and reduced urban heat as major objectives, the building employs:
- Rainwater harvesting systems
- Passive ventilation through open terraces
- Vegetative insulation via layered plantings
A New Typology for the Vertical City
VERTI-PARK exemplifies how architecture can serve as infrastructure, ecology, and recreation—within a single envelope. It proposes a new typology where buildings do not isolate single functions but instead combine them to improve urban life.
As cities grow vertically, VERTI-PARK offers a blueprint for future towers to be more than places of storage or residence. They can become spaces for living, breathing, and community-building—layer by layer.
