A Vision Rooted in Local Craftsmanship

This project embodies a deep respect for traditional West African architecture and sustainable building practices. Constructed using earth, limestone, and bamboo, the villa seamlessly blends with its tropical environment. Skilled artisans from nearby Assinie handcrafted the bamboo roof, ensuring that the materials used were locally sourced and cost-effective. The walls, finished with natural lime and earth, showcase subtle variations in tone, eliminating the need for additional ornamentation.

An Open and Fluid Spatial Experience

The villa’s design follows an intuitive flow of spaces, starting with an elevated entrance slab framed by two walls. This pathway leads directly to the open-plan living area, which is subtly elevated to enhance natural ventilation. From here, a central tropical rock garden acts as a focal point, reinforcing the home’s connection to nature.

A bamboo-roofed patio introduces a striking interplay of light and shadow, guiding visitors toward two independent bedrooms. The master suite, accessible via a sculptural stairway in the entrance corridor, offers panoramic ocean views. A distinct feature of this upper-level retreat is its tropical open-air bathroom, merging luxury with nature.

A Testament to Sustainable Architecture

Villa Mondoukou is more than just a vacation home; it represents a harmonious balance between modern minimalism and vernacular craftsmanship. By utilizing natural materials and passive cooling strategies, the architects have crafted an eco-conscious sanctuary that embraces its coastal setting.
