Villa VOL005 by Studio BO — A Timeless Fusion of Earth, Light, and Spirit in Marrakech
Villa VOL005 by Studio BO in Marrakech blends terracotta, light, and craftsmanship, creating a serene, modern sanctuary rooted in earth.
Nestled on the serene edge of a golf course in Marrakech, Villa VOL005 by Studio BO stands as a poetic dialogue between architecture, landscape, and light. Built on a 1,400 m² plot, this 637 m² villa embodies a refined duality — both grounded in the earth and elevated in spirit, merging raw materiality with ethereal calm.

Architectural Concept and Design Philosophy
Villa VOL005 is conceived as a “silent presence”, an architectural meditation that captures the sensual warmth of Marrakech’s ochre terrain while maintaining a contemporary minimalism. The design unfolds across two distinct strata — a solid, terracotta brick base rooted deeply in the land, and a light, almost floating upper level that breathes openness and fluidity.
The ground floor, constructed from reddish terracotta bricks, establishes a dialogue with the earth, while the upper volume, both curved and angular, opens seamlessly to panoramic views of the golf course. This layered composition creates a sculptural balance between heaviness and lightness, enclosure and exposure — echoing the essence of Moroccan desert architecture interpreted through a modern lens.

Exterior and Spatial Flow
From the street, the villa presents a restrained, monolithic façade, ensuring privacy through fine vertical slats of terracotta that filter the sun’s western glow. The entrance, framed between two curved walls, offers a subtle moment of transition — a deliberate pause between the outside world and the home’s inner sanctuary.
Inside, the villa reveals an open, flowing layout centered around a sculptural staircase that acts as the architectural spine. Floating above the space, the stair’s delicate handrail and suspended form create a dialogue between structure and lightness.

Interior Design and Materiality
The ground floor is arranged into three distinct living sequences — a dining room, a lounge, and a fireplace area, unified under a sculptural suspended chimney. Pivoting doors allow spaces to merge or separate, reinforcing the villa’s flexible rhythm.
Material selection reflects a devotion to Moroccan craftsmanship and local sustainability. The architects worked with zellige tiles, tadelakt plaster, Taza stone, and handmade terracotta brick — all locally sourced and meticulously crafted. Custom details, from stone handles to sculptural rain chains, celebrate the tactile bond between architecture and artisanship.

Upper Level and Spiritual Connection
On the upper floor lies the villa’s meditation space, a serene open-air retreat that connects directly to the sky — a minimalist chamber of introspection where light becomes the principal material. This space embodies Studio BO’s vision of architecture as a vessel for stillness and reflection.
Surrounding the villa, lush greenery forms an intimate cocoon, softening the geometry of the structure while reinforcing harmony between nature and human dwelling.

Villa VOL005 is not merely a home but a sensorial experience — a seamless blend of earth, light, craftsmanship, and tranquility. Studio BO’s architectural vision honors the timeless Moroccan spirit while reimagining it for the present — sensual, silent, and profoundly connected to place.
