Design Vision: Rooted in Landscape, Elevated by Light

The client's primary wish was to maintain a strong connection to agriculture while incorporating a family-friendly weekend home. To honor this, the house is strategically positioned at a diagonal corner of the plot—maximizing arable land while ensuring a larger foreground and visual buffer from neighboring properties.

The architectural layout responds not only to physical needs but also emotional and experiential ones. The design encourages a slower pace, one that invites reflection, openness, and immersion in the surrounding environment.

Journey Through Space: From Walkway to Void

Rather than a direct entrance, visitors are gently led through an elaborate walkway that ends in a central open courtyard—a symbolic pause that orients the visitor toward the farm. The built structure is tucked between this courtyard and the farmland, designed with parallel brick walls that organize space, provide privacy, and frame views.

These walls are not barriers—they are transitional elements, creating semi-open verandas, visual connections, and subtle divisions between private and public zones. This layout carves the land into two distinct open areas: one for the courtyard, another for the fields.

Architecture of the Void

At the heart of this home lies the "void", a sanctuary of openness where the sky becomes part of the architecture. The floating roof structure casts a rhythm of shade and light, turning ordinary movements into intimate, sensory experiences. The house’s grid-based plan allows for a mix of smaller service spaces and expansive served areas like the living room, dining area, and kitchen—all designed to flow into the outdoor farmland.

On the northern side, private bedrooms open into the inner courtyard, ensuring serenity and seclusion, while the southern wing integrates communal areas that embrace openness.

Materiality and Light

Material choices are grounded in local textures and earthy aesthetics, blending concrete, wood, and natural finishes that age beautifully with time. The play of void and volume, combined with open terraces and deep verandas, allows natural light and ventilation to penetrate every corner.
