Underwater Habitat
Designs for human habitation beneath the ocean surface, from converted offshore structures to mobile and biomimetic pods.
NARWALL-diploma project
(graduate/specialist MARKHI 2015 - Moscow Architectural Institute) The idea was to create a recreational complex with an artificial environment, isolated from the harsh conditions of the Arctic. My project is a mini city. A fully Autonomous system, but at the same time created all the conditions for normal human habitation.
Voice of the Sea: A Glowing Underwater Beacon Drawn to the Rhythm of Whale Migration
Drina Cortez imagines a luminous seabed tower and a floating shell for Bermuda's waters, a vision carried by atmosphere more than by plan.
Aquadapt: An Underwater Habitat That Rewrites Its Rooms by the Hour
Curved modules ring the seabed while one shell shifts from breakfast room to cinema, farm and football pitch as residents' needs change.
wireless CORALPODS
Introducing wireless CORALPODS with no cables attached to the sea floor, mainland or anywhere else. Coralpods believe in a circular exchange with the existing marine ecosystem while providing an inclusive habitat. Both terrestrial (humans) and marine species can inhibit it.
Tidal Survival: A Biomimetic Habitat That Glows, Moves, and Breathes Beneath the Ocean
Nicholas Miller's shortlisted EHC Pacific entry reimagines underwater habitation as a mobile, bioluminescent organism rather than a rigid capsule.
Cloaked Colonization: A Mobile Underwater Habitat That Moves Like a Fish
Micah Abaya's shortlisted EHC Pacific entry reimagines ocean settlement as a dispersed network of self-sustaining architectural organisms.
Submersion: A Modular Kit for Building Communities Beneath the Ocean
A scalable underwater habitat system organized around repeatable hubs, standardized connections, and renewable infrastructure for long-term subsea living.
Kelpscape: An Underwater Habitat That Becomes Part of the Kelp Forest
A submersible research vessel designed to be colonized by the very marine ecosystem it studies, blurring the line between architecture and organism.
OASIS: A Spherical Underwater Habitat Engineered for Life on the Pacific Shelf
A 16.6-meter geodesic sphere proposes self-sufficient living 200 meters below the Pacific, turning structure into landscape.
Operative Sanctuary: Architecture Designed for Marine Life, Not Human Comfort
A speculative underwater habitat reframes sustainable architecture as ecological infrastructure for species threatened by ocean pollution.
Coral Spine
Coral Spine is a multifunctional underwater structure. It serves as a gallery space, as well as a nesting ground, rehabilitatio
BUBHUB: Underwater Bubble Clusters That Grow Like Coral Reefs
A modular underwater habitat system designed to blur the line between architecture and marine ecosystem through biomimicry and incremental growth.
Biodiversity Lab: An Underwater Habitat That Grows Like a Coral Reef
A shortlisted entry for EHC Pacific reimagines the research laboratory as a modular, coral-compatible framework on the Great Barrier Reef seabed.
Looping tale
Reimagined little
it is beautifull!
Very interesting reinterpretation of Escher's conceptual world
Thanks !
SHELLTER: A Spiral Seashell Habitat That Turns the Pacific Ocean Into Life Support
A shortlisted EHC - Pacific entry that splits a pressure-resistant cylinder into spiraling floors, drawing energy, food and oxygen from Carnegie Ridge.
Tsunami Convergenics
Tsunami Convergenics is a housing module that works with its extreme environment off the coast of Onagawa continental shelf. The housing units work inconjunction with the Onagwa Power Plant in both protecting and providing alternate energy source that is captivated through extreme wave currents of tsunamic earthquakes. The housing begins to work with its
Wow! Amazing! Great concept!
This project answers a lot of the requests needed for an habitat underwater. The form of the unit and of the coral pods respond to the conditions for pressure, light, movement underwater. It takes into account issues of food, oxygen or water provision. Addresses different space conditions both in a single unit and in a social level. Even though the exterior of the coral pod is not well shown in the panels, the proposal is very strong.
Wow! truly a futuristic yet practical idea! thoroughly enjoyed reading the brief! Well done and all the best!
