Architectural Vision and Context

Designed by the acclaimed Indonesian architect Andra Matin, Loka Meru Ballroom exemplifies his signature approach—merging simplicity, craftsmanship, and contextual sensitivity. The 750-square-meter structure anchors the resort as a multifunctional event space, yet it feels deeply rooted in its environment. The expansive interior, framed by an exposed timber structure, invites sunlight and breeze, creating a serene connection between guests and the natural surroundings.

Material Innovation – Engineered Timber Craftsmanship

The project’s defining element lies in its glulam (glued laminated timber) structure, realized through a close collaboration with Woodlam Indonesia, which served as both structural consultant and manufacturer. Using locally sourced Jabon wood, a fast-growing plantation species, the glulam beams—spanning up to 16 meters—form a strikingly linear rhythm across the hall’s ceiling.

This engineered timber not only enhances the visual identity of the ballroom but also supports sustainable construction practices. All materials are SVLK-certified, ensuring they meet Indonesia’s national timber legality and sustainability standards. The use of renewable Jabon wood reinforces the resort’s and architect’s shared commitment to environmental responsibility and innovation in tropical architecture.

The use of prefabricated Jabon glulam proved advantageous in the mountainous region, where weather conditions often shift dramatically.
