Art Nouveau Architecture: Redefining Spaces for Artful Living
Embrace the artistry of Art Nouveau architecture where creativity meets everyday life, inspiring spaces that connect communities.
Winner Entry of Artful Dining by Bhavya Ohri and Jayesh More
L’Éclat de l’Art This project celebrates the essence of Art Nouveau architecture by transforming a theatre dining experience into a living masterpiece. Blending artistry with everyday life, the design respects the natural sloped site, creating a harmonious balance between the structure and its surroundings. The stepped base supports the theatre, offering a seamless integration into the landscape.
Food preparation becomes a live performance, merging culinary art with theatrical design. The elevated and open structure fosters community interaction, with a dynamic ground floor that serves as a vibrant gathering space for social and cultural engagement.

3 Principles of Design
1. Art is Accessible to All
Art Nouveau emerged as a cultural movement driven by the rise of a socially middle-class society. Rooted in inclusivity, the design makes art accessible to everyone. This philosophy resonates deeply with Lisbon’s identity, where the interplay of industrial heritage and artistic innovation thrives. The landscape is designed as a multi-level platform, promoting vibrant public interaction through spaces for community events, exhibitions, and outdoor activities.
The seamless integration of art, nature, and architecture is exemplified by the placement of trees, multi-sensory features, and sustainable design elements. Materials like wood and mosaic flooring blend nature with artistic expression, creating an immersive environment for visitors.

2. Total Work of Art
Art Nouveau advocates a “total work of art” concept, combining fine and applied arts into a singular, cohesive design. The project features a grand theatre with a multi-tiered dining experience, offering unobstructed views of the stage. Luxurious, curved backdrops create focal points that elevate the dining experience to a form of artistic expression.
The building’s design integrates visual and functional art, making every element of the space—from furniture to architectural details—a contributor to the overall artistic narrative.
3. Art in Everyday Life
Art Nouveau thrives on blending art with daily life. This design extends beyond aesthetics by fostering meaningful interactions through open, community-focused spaces. The interplay of light, materials, and space transforms the ground floor into a welcoming public arena for gatherings, cultural performances, and art exhibitions.

L’Éclat de l’Art: The Brilliance of Art
This project embraces Art Nouveau’s philosophy of harmonizing architecture with art and daily life. The concept of "Artful Dining" transforms a simple activity into a memorable experience. The stepped architectural form respects the site’s natural slope, ensuring seamless integration with the environment.

Key highlights include:
- Community Integration: The ground floor functions as an open community space, encouraging interaction and cultural exchanges.
- Theatrical Dining: Elevated upper floors serve as theatrical dining areas, merging the culinary arts with visual performance.
This visionary project by Bhavya Ohri and Jayesh More redefines Art Nouveau architecture’s potential in modern urban design. By making art accessible, immersive, and central to daily life, L’Éclat de l’Art stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of this artistic movement.
