Cherry Homestay: A Harmonious Blend of Modern Design and Traditional Hoi An Architecture
Cherry Homestay blends modern architecture with traditional Hoi An elements, featuring spiral stairs, rooftop mezzanine, sustainable materials, and open, airy spaces.
Nestled on a compact 5x25m plot, Cherry Homestay is a remarkable example of contemporary hospitality architecture that gracefully integrates nature and traditional design elements. Conceived by AN NAM Architecture, the homestay merges modern lines, forms, and textures with the timeless charm of Hoi An’s traditional architecture.

The building features strong, angular lines accentuated by a V-pillar system that creates a striking facade. These bold geometric forms are softened by curves, including a spiral staircase, balancing rigidity with fluidity. Traditional Hoi An roof tiles are carefully interwoven into the design, preserving the region’s vernacular aesthetics while creating a contemporary architectural statement.

Thoughtful Spatial Planning
To optimize guest experience, the architects reduced the original nine rooms to seven, allowing more open space for circulation and leisure. The swimming pool was relocated from the first floor to the second floor, providing both privacy and panoramic views. A mezzanine level in the top rooms enhances spatial perception, leveraging the roof tile height to create unique, airy spaces.
The staircase design is an architectural feature in itself. Each flight is tailored to its location, offering a dynamic and engaging movement experience across the homestay’s four floors. Reversed stair placements add unexpected spatial variety, making ascending and descending a delightful experience rather than a mere function.

Sustainable and Local Material Philosophy
Cherry Homestay reflects a sustainable design philosophy, emphasizing natural light, air circulation, and open space planning. Locally sourced materials such as bamboo, bricks, cement, tiles, and grinding stone are used throughout, processed meticulously by hand. This approach not only showcases the region’s craftsmanship but also preserves the authenticity of Hoi An’s architectural heritage.
