CM House, designed by parte arquitetura, is a striking modern residence located in Pelotas, southern Brazil. Completed in 2019, the 3154 ft² (420 m²) home is a bold architectural statement that combines minimalist geometry, concrete structure, and functional living spaces. The design reflects a careful balance of form, solar orientation, and landscape integration, making it a standout example of Brazilian contemporary architecture.

Architectural Concept

The project adopts a linear and compact composition, fully respecting the lot’s boundaries. The house is positioned near the southeastern edge of the site to maximize natural light and solar efficiency. Its architectural identity is defined by a white rectangular prism resting above a concrete base, with cantilevered projections extending toward both the front and rear facades. This volumetric play of overhangs and voids enhances the building’s modern aesthetic while creating shaded, functional outdoor spaces.

Spatial Organization

The ground floor is organized into two distinct lanes:

  • Social areas – including the living room, dining space, and kitchen, seamlessly connected to the porch for indoor-outdoor living.
  • Service and wet areas – designed for practical functionality and privacy.

A defining feature of the design is the slatted movable wood panels, which separate the living room while improving natural ventilation and climate adaptation during extreme summer and winter conditions.

The double-height dining area visually connects the two levels, transforming the second floor into an open walkway. The centralized staircase creates a transverse division of spaces:

  • Master suite overlooking the lake, located at the rear.
  • Two bedrooms facing the front, each with balcony access.

These balconies not only provide natural light and cross-ventilation but also function as sunshades and covered porches on the ground floor.

Materiality and Structure

The independent reinforced concrete structure allows for dramatic overhangs of up to 5 meters, visually detaching the upper prismatic volume from the ground floor. The ground level features apparent concrete and large glass surfaces, creating a rhythm of solid and transparent planes.

This interplay of opaque and glazed elements balances privacy, openness, and daylight control, shaping dynamic interior atmospheres while connecting residents to the surrounding landscape. The material palette combines raw concrete textures, clean white finishes, and natural light, reinforcing the minimalist modernist character of the house.
